Gabbiadini the man to back up Lukaku?

Everton are rumoured to be chasing Italy and Napoli striker Manolo Gabbiadini. Reports from earlier in the week said that the Blues had bid £21.5m and another £4.3m in bonuses for the player.

After the Partenopei sold Gonzalo Higuain, it was expected that Gabbiadini would take over the lead role in the attack. However, he has failed to establish himself under Maurizio Sarri since his move in January 2015, scoring thirteen goals in that time. Gabbiadini got pulled off after an hour in Napoli’s season opener, a 2-2 draw with Pescara.

Reports yesterday stated that Gabbiadini’s agent was on his way to Merseyside to hold talks with Everton and finalize a deal. The Blues were also rumoured to have been beaten to the signature of forward Lucas Perez by Arsenal.

Napoli had attempted to trade Gabbiadini for Nikola Kalinic of Fiorentina, but that deal fell through this week too.

Manolo Gabbiadini characteristics

He is a versatile forward who can play anywhere across the front line, although as a left-footer he prefers cutting in from the right.

However, he only managed four starts for Napoli last season and was substituted after 53 minutes as the Italian side drew 2-2 with Pescara in their opening fixture.
