Everton, our summer transfers and short term cost control regulations

I don't believe Moshiri will do this, he'll want a complete acquisition programme this summer. He can fund the increase in salaries which is purely a technical restriction either by as I say a player sale or by boosting sponsorship revenues. My view is he'll allow 1 player to leave to achieve this - Stones is the ideal candidate and wants to leave for City anyway.

Doesn't Rom want to leave just as much (if not more) than Stones? Considering we could likely get an equal or greater fee for him, what makes Rom a less ideal sale in your opinion?

...I want us to be astute in the market. I'm not for a Manchester City approach of buying all that is out there for inflated prices. They might have won a title but there is no sole in that side, no strategy.

The owner wants a marqui signing. Alan Ball was a marqui signing at 21 after being MoM in a World Cup final. I'm hoping the manager has a team model/shape and is buying the blend he needs. Blend is such an important ingredient and we shouldn't forget we have decent footballers and a few youngsters coming through.

Players who help the cause, please. Blend, please.

So as far as I can tell now if we exceed the expenditure and cannot support it with additional revenue growth to break even then

It appears from the guidance in the handbook that a Financial Regulatory Panel will be established to determine whether a club has complied with the cost control provisions and to sanction the club accordingly if they have been in breach.

But there is no word on how the sanctions differ depending on the individual infraction. In the case where we have grown our expenditure above the limits but have an owner who can afford to write off that loss are they going to attempt to punish us so long as we can demonstrate that we are actively pursuing all avenues to increase all available sources of revenue which under financial projections should allow us to facilitate this increase in salary expenditure in the future.

Two things really mate, as a prolific goal scorer he's much more difficult to replace and secondly he wouldn't generate as much profit in a sale as Stones (I don't believe he'd go for £60 plus million)

Stones is easier to replace atm but also has potential that far exceeds roms long term

Because he cost significantly less and has had his transfer fee reduced through amortisation in the accounts he would (from a balance sheet perspective) bring in the largest amount of revenue out of the two of them.

Still keeping fingers crossed that the hierarchy are trying secure another, high-value sponsorship deal so as to reduce the need to sell any of our star assets.

@The Esk

What was Everton's wage bill in 2015/16, if the new amount for STCC applying is £67m in 2016/17.

Accounts are not out for 2015/16 but I believe they were £75 million, therefore our wage limit without additional income would be £82 million for 2016/17. My own view is that our wage bill will go to north of £100 million, possibly as high as £110 million this year.

So in short, Stones is going this summer.

Not necessarily, I'm very sceptical of just how severe a punishment we would face for breaking the salary expenditure rules. Nothing is explicitly laid out and it appears that any infractions will be resolved in front of a board of Premier League financial representatives. If we can show that we are not in danger of going insolvent through this increased expenditure and we can show financial projections that demonstrate our ability to grow our revenue streams above and beyond this salary increase amount then I can't really see them beating us with too big of stick.

If we sell Stones for say £40m, how much would we be able to spend in this transfer window without breaking any rules? My head feels like it's been through that blender that's just been posted.

I suppose I hadn't considered the notion of "profit" considering the large fee we paid for Lukaku. Wasn't sure how much that really mattered with a new owner in place. Either way, I'm firmly of the belief that if given a choice, I'd rather keep Stones. If Lukaku hadn't expelled so much energy agitating PUBLICLY for a move, I would likely feel differently. I want a team that is enthusiastic and FOCUSED on the task at hand. I don't need Rom to "love" Everton like Ross presumably does. But rewarding this petulance--to me at least--is the wrong initial message for the new regime to send. I fear it will only encourage more of this behavior in the future. Having said ALL of that, if he does stay, I'll get behind him and the team of course. Just a tough pill to swallow.

Will be sad to see Stones go as we never got to see the best of him; do you really think we'll get a bigger fee for John than we would for Rom? Rom seems to be the one agitating for the move, but after his agent's comments I guess he could be persuaded to keep shtum for a while via a new big deal.
