Everton play like 'Stoke'

Short term they've lost the initiative now, because taking these to task after the (non)apology will make us look daft. They missed the boat on that, but they had Sunday, Monday and yesterday to respond and didn't do it. It's been a hopeless twiddling of thumbs when a decisive response was called for.

Longer term Moyes (or whoever's in charge) need to get on the front foot post Derbies and get our retaliation in first. Lets not kid ourselves, there's no love lost between us and them. When United/City; Celtic/Rangers; Arsenal/Spurs; Uniteds/Liverpool play - they all have the narrative in place before they face the cameras. It's an important part of managing news and taking positives away from important, often season-defining encounters. Moyes just doesn't know how to deal with them, it's clear. Which has always surprised me a bit given how he announced himself to Merseyside football.

To sum up, what we've had is insult heaped upon followed now by a qualified 'apology' from them and a weak as gruel offiocial club statement on the matter.

I find all that a bit hard to classify as us coming out with dignity.

You quoting your own negativity now? Would you really rather we played the same media game as them? do you honestly think they have come out on top in this?
I realise that there is nothing anyone at this club could ever do that you would consider okay but we came out of this with an apology (however weak) forced onto Gerrard by the media who took our sides because we were silent and dignified. If that's not the right way then what the hell is? Do what they are doing and go for trading insults.. no thanks.

That wasn't a retraction though. He hasn't said Everton aren't long ball he said he went 'too far' which means precisely sweet FA.
Everton have forced nothing from the situation - it hasn't been a dignified silence it's been a shameful standing back while our reputation was kicked about by a pair of massive belters.

One of whom has been widely mocked in the press and forced to apologise, and the other one is just digging a progressively deeper hole for himself with every press conference he comes out with.

In any case, the best way we as a club should deal with this is just record everything the whoppers come out with and then play it to the team just before the tin mine derby.

Nah, he came out with a load of **** & the press ripped it to bits. He's now come out with a half arsed retraction after being told to by his club, as he's made himself & them look bitter belters. Rodgers is attempting to back him up with yet more transparent meaningless bollocks.

Jags has laughed at them with his comments, & ripped into Rodgers bollocks 'system' in the process.

We've played this bob on imo, a 'street fight' would be lowering ourselves to their ****e hawk level, they're stewing & it's great to watch.

We've come out of this looking weak:

  • reliant on the press and radio to fight our corner for us
  • allowing a long ball tag to be resurrected (and it's still being used by the back door by Rodgers today)
  • failing to nail them post match for their assaults on our players

Nah, lets keep doing what you're purporting because thats proved a real winner against this mob.

The beauty of accepting sh1te, as per your inference, is it takes no effort, passion or heart. A simple laissez-faire mindset which sees us crashing into the champions league year on year, racking up scintillating cup wins and dominating the derby matches means this boy scout attitude is a real winner ...... oh hang on!!!

I'll have a cardigan (XL please) when you're back from church.

Don't worry mate, I've seen the light now, if we'd just insulted Liverpool a bit more, our financial weakness would have evaporated long ago and we'd have won the champions league to boot. Let's not let evidence that insulting them helps no one but them get in the way of our crippling paranoia, overwhelming negativity and complete and utter delusion.

The other two I think they've just made themselves look twattish on, ultimately. I've even had a kopite I work with laughing at Gerrard today, but this one has actually been bugging me badly. Virtually nothing has been made of those two incidents and they were both absolutely vile. Game-changing in the case of Mirallas, and potentially career-ending in the case of Distin. Suarez should be being hauled over the coals for it, and this bull**** has allowed them to be detracted from.

Aye, still a bit curious why there hasn't been anything said about those, I thought there would be an inquiry about that ****.

Someone once said it is better to stay quiet and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
I'm not the biggest Moyes fan around, but in this case I think he's handled it quite well. The lunatics across the park are coming across more and more as spoiled brats tossing their toys out of the pram and sooner or later, everyone gets tired of hearing the whining. The British press seem to have crossed that threshold, finally.
