Good enough for what ? The starting 11 ? No
Reserves ? Yes.

23 players in a squad not 11. Just because we signed a couple of good players doesn't mean were big time and now too good for squad players.

good enough for reserves based on what? he's played for the first team and shown to be out his depth, he's also not a "kid" anymore so he wont want to be a reserve so why would we want to relay on him if he was ever needed

your logic that 23 players in a squad is the reason to keep a poor player is baffling, by that logic should we have kept Williams cuco klaasan etc?

Joe Williams-

Does anyone know why this kid never gets called up to the England youth teams ? He's the best English defensive mid in the country.
It’s hard to know if you’re serious or just on a wind up at times - Joe Williams has been highly regarded by a few of us on this and the Youth thread for many years, but I’ve never heard of him being regarded as “ the best English defensive mid in the country.”
Anyway , to answer your question in one word : injuries. He’s suffered some serious injuries which set him back but which he recovered from , then more injuries interrupted his call up for England at U20s level when he was selected and played, and if I remember right he was also selected at u21 but never got to play because of further injuries. Another factor is that he was born in December, meaning he was competing against an older international age group e.g. he was in the same Scholar year as Kenny and Ryan Ledson, but they were born in 97 , Williams 96 ,so Williams would have been one of the youngest in his international year. At 17 - 20 that can make a difference.

Ronaldo Vieira
Lewis Cook
Maitland-Niles
Ledson
Oxford

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH

Viera is not better than williams whatsoever.
Cook is a center mid.
Ledson cant even get a game at Preston.
What is a Niles ?
Oxford is a centre back and a very poor one.

Oh give it a rest , you continually sound like you get your knowledge from doing Google searches. How many times have you seen Williams play in an Everton shirt at PL level ? Zero. How many times have you seen him play in any Everton games in the past 15 months? Do provide a write up of games and what you saw. Many of us took the time to watch him in tv highlights / live games at Barnsley last season and he was excellent but nowhere near being the best English defensive mid. You appear to havembased your assessment on reports from Saturday’s match.
I actually care very little about England and their players , only interested when Everton boys are involved, but know that Dier is way ahead of Williams , and once he’s fully recovered from his injury Nathaniel Chalobah will be ahead of Williams too in my pecking order, a vastly underrated player.
P.s. if you think Williams is a pure defensive mid, whatever that is, then you clearly haven’t watched him.

Its got nothing to do with how many times he's played for Everton idiot. Messi hasnt played for Everton that doesnt mean he isnt the greatest ever.

Errr, the question was how times have you seen him play for Everton, I.e. what are you basing your assessment on , which you’ve chosen to ignore so I guess you haven’t. Watch your language too, this is a civilised forum if you can’t keep it that way try other forums.

Bolton Wanderers - Joe Williams played full match in 1-2 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers

OS Match Report

Twitter stuff
After good work by @JoeWilliams0812, @yanicw33 got the better of Toni Leistner and delivered a cross into the box. The ball fell to @craignoone who fired a shot narrowly over the bar. Chance! 44'

Fan comments
"We have the centre midfielders now to play 442, though on today’s showing Vela should be in there not Williams."
"Not convinced by this lad from Everton at all. Seems to throw a strop when he’s not passed to and he’s not picking his man up in midfield leaving Lowe swamped."

Wigan Athletic - Callum Connolly and Antonee Robinson played full matches in 0-2 away defeat at Brentford

OS Match Report

Twitter stuff
51' Positive start to the second half. Callum Connolly almost broke clear through on goal early on but couldn't control it on the edge of the area. Latics testing the hosts with a couple of set piece deliveries. (1-0)
78' Not far away! Excellent @reecejames69 free kick delivered deep, @Callum1connolly flicked it on, but Joe Garner couldn't quite stretch to turn it in at the back post! (2-0)
85' Latics push to claw a late way back into the game, good work on the ball to get it wide for @Antonee_Jedi, perfect delivery for Garner in the area, but the header is glanced wide! (2-0)

Fan comments
"Connolly actually had quite a good game "
"Anthoneeeeeee looked a bit tired, and I think I would have taken him off."
"Robinson did look tired and was struggling to get back."
"That RW will need help to pull Robinson out of his back pocket."
"For Connolly i assumed he would be in the side so we can aim cross field balls to him and exploit his aerial presence - almost use him a a Lee McCollouch type winger. But there was none of that in the last 2 games he's played on the right wing. There is absolutely no reason to have him on the right wing if you are going to expect him to play as a traditional winger - he's not got enough pace or dribbling skills to offer anything in that role."
"Callum Connolly ... has a cracking chance to score and falls over his own feet .... arrggghhhhhhh."

Ipswich Town - Matthew Pennington played full match in 0-2 away defeat to Hull City

OS Match Report
"It was Hull who got off to a flyer though and they were ahead inside the first four minutes, Bowen getting free inside the box and clipping his shot over Gerken, with Matt Pennington unable to stop the ball going over the line."
"Graham was crowded out after Gwion Edwards had opened up some space and crossed from the right, then Nolan headed wide after Pennington had fed a corner back into the danger area."
"It needed another timely intervention - this time from Pennington to clear the danger from Stephen Kingsley’s excellent run and cross"

Twitter stuff
GOAL. Hull 1 Town 0 (Bowen, 4) Fraizer Campbell plays the ball through to Bowen who dinks the ball over Gerken and into the net despite Pennington's best efforts to clear.
70' Bowen's blocked shot falls perfectly for Evandro who tries to lift the ball into the net, but Pennington does well to nod the ball off the line

Fan comments
"Pennington hard working yes but a hoofer he is."
"Chambo and Pennington did ok but the ref's reluctance to produce a card allowed Campbell far too many opportunities to niggle, even bully our back line with numerous late challenges."

...not the most positive feedback this week but these lads will be inconsistent and it doesn’t help when your team lose. It appears travelling on international duty took its toll on Robinson but he’s going to have to live with this.

I love the fan comments. They show how bi-polar we all are. One week these lads are stars in the making, the next they should be out of the team lol
