Everton Premier League era player nominees

Okay let's move on to the next, best Everton premier league era player nomination

Underrated: Naismith
Overrated: Ferguson
Best:??

my nomination for best Everton PL era: Mikel Arteta

I think maybe Cahill?

Underrated - Kevin Sheedy

I know we all thought he was great - actually he was a genius of a player with the best left foot I've ever seen .

However hardly anyone outside Everton rated him.

Soz like. I am not buying into the 'Premier League era' malarkey. Footy was invented before then, and has largely got worse since the PLs inception.

Yours

A. M. Iseryarse
Couldn't agree more. Have all our players and achievements pre premier league been cancelled?

Overrated: Rodriguez. Barely featured for us and has built a career based on reputation rather than production. Yet somehow he's achieved demigod status in the eyes of some.

James McCarthy: by every measurable metric an abject failure at Everton. Carried, on the rare occasions he did actually play, by Gareth Barry. And yet spoken of fondly as if he didn't miss over 50% of the games in his time at Everton.

Phil Jagielka: Whilst by no means a bad defender, he simply wasn't anywhere near as good as his memory appears to have become over time. Too many folks focus on him scoring a long range volley against the RS but forget instances like being turned inside out by Ricky van Wolfswinkel (Norwich). Serviceable, and deffo better than Keane and Holgate... But not an elite player.

Best: Arteta or Baines. Very hard to split them.

granted his inury problems were substantial, made worse by martinez's handling of him, but when he played i thought he was actually good and complimented barry well

He played in 2/3rds of our games mate, he was absolutely unreal. Never seen a player for everton as good as he was. Shame that fat horrible pig got rid.
