You've never heard of no trade clauses? They are in literally every American sorts league. Any good player had that in their contact. That gives them a HUGE upper hand determining where they want to go.

You do realize the club determines where the player will go in a trade. And with a no trade clause, it means they cannot leave unless they are cut.

Carmelo pushed a move through to NY for marketing reasons.

It normally either tends to happen that way, or when a star in on the downside of their career and looking to get that elusive ring.

The difference is players don't leave in the middle of their contract like they do in football.
