Everton reopen talks with Sam Allardyce

Totally agree. In appointing Allardyce, a former England manager who got Bolton into the top 6 and who has never been relegated in 20 years of management, we are at least taking a step in the right direction.

At the moment we are a club in freefall and Big Sam has a knack for stabilising such clubs.

He's not Simeone, but he's a better bet than the likes of Dyche, Silva and Moyes, all of whom have been relegated.

I totally agree.

We can't go on as we are. Another loss tonight and we will be back in the bottom 3. And we are limited as to who we can realistically appoint. Bringing in Simeone was only ever a pipe dream. We need a manager who has a lot of experience and who makes his teams hard to beat. And we need a manager who understands how big this club is in terms of its history. That's Big Sam.

1. Bolton
Alladyce got Bolton into Europe with the likes of Okocha, Diouf, the dude from Madrid, Djorkaeff and of course, Gary Speed. With those guys it wasn't kick n run. They were decent in Sam's last seasons, and it was the clubs underlying shaky finances low gate receipts etc that weren't sustainable. He should not have had so much money, but he spent successfully.

Everton have the money and the fans.

2. Others,
Geordies didn't like him, but collapsed without him, after giving him no time. West Ham up, Blackburn safe etc. How can he do better than survival with that lot? ( and he did better than survival )

Hodgson is starting to make gains using a largely unchanged Palace squad ( I'd have Sakho in our back four tomorrow ) and his only falling for England was giving honest, private views in a fake interview. He won his 1 game in charge.

3. Everton
Give the guy a chance. I wanted Unsworth to have a crack at things, but he's too green, poor tactics and dire defence (which I thought he'd tighten). Mostly I don't feel he's developed a good touchline presence yet ( lots of head shaking ). More time yes, now maybe not.

4. Targets
Could Everton be the club to tarnish Sam's record? Maybe. But this squad with this attitude I felt for the first time is relegation material on form vs teams around us. We must stay up.

Walsh, kenwright, Elstone, go. Wasted millions. Moshiri is delivering cash and a ground and a project that will be incredible for the city. We must stay up to realise that.

I'd give Alladyce a run

This, 100%

Do we have a choice between throwing our morals and ethics away and... not doing that?

Yes, yes we do.

We're in a relegation fight, yes, but not so desperate as to throw our entire identity down the drain for a proven crook. I'd rather take the risk with a more unknown manager. I still don't believe we'll go down whoever we have as manager - even Unsworth - the fact we're not even in the relegation zone and one win off 12th despite being unimaginably bad shows the state of this league; it's not panic stations yet to the point where Sam bloody Allardyce should be an option.

I'd bet there are hundreds of Forest, Leeds, Villa etc who all thought the same thing.

I'd hate to be sitting in the Bullens Road on the last day, needing a win to stay up.

Been there, done that, hated it.

I would be interested to see what he does with a decent budget
Ge has done great work at rescuing teams on a low budget
Let’s see ...

This is not forever. It's to sort us out.

Is he who I want to lead us to glory? Is he heck
Are we anywhere near glory? Quite the opposite. We're as far as we've ever been.

If he can steady the ship then great. It can't get worse than the last two games.

I'm not as bummed by this as others that's for sure.

Agree. 100%

This, 100%
This is a terrific post
I’ve been reading allardyce for a while ... since the England debacle in fact ... and it took me by surprise
The guys football can be progressive ... the common opinion of his hoof ball style is not entirely true ... it was necessary when he was showing up leaky defences .... best way to protect a defence is get the ball away from them
Like all good tacticians ... sort the defense ... stop the bleeding .... then deploy the talent you have in front of them to the best of their abilities ... I believe some of our new payers will start to shine when they are playing regularly in positions they understand in front of a defence that works
Let’s give this chap a chance

I don't know that anybody is saying we arem't doing that badly. We are a complete mess.

Lets face it the opinion of all fans to this horrible possibility is influenced greatly by whether or not you think we are in a relegation battle.

I don't think we are. 13 games in. 3 teams worse off than us. Another few within 2 points of us. And this is whilst we are without a manager and looking worse than we have in I dunno how long. How bad must those other teams be?!

I don't think this needs the ill-advised panic appointment of that corrupt arrogant oaf.

And where are we getting those 2 points from?

Have you been watching us ?

I can’t believe anybody watched the last two games and doesn’t believe we needed to act and quickly . Failure to get points from these two home games and we absolutely won’t be worrying about much else but finishing 17th .

Everton are dire , absolutely dire and we look like one of those teams you watch on tv that are not far from relegation certs . This is the worst football I think I’ve ever watched in decades at Goodison , the players are simply not trying and not trying equals relegation.

I’m not a doom and gloom merchant and I probably felt differently a few weeks ago but these performances are horrific. A new manager and some money spent them of course it can change but to keep pretending that it’s a bad spell is in my opinion deluded .
