You're in a job. You're just ok at your job, you get by, sometimes you even blag your way through it, but you get by.
Another company is in bother, total shambles of a firm, badly run, a history of bad management choices has pushed them to the brink. They need help badly but nobody in their right mind wants anything to do with them.
They come calling. They've decided they need your services to get them out the gutter.
You agree to do it, but on your terms. You want a ridiculous pay rise, and even suggest bringing in people around you who you've worked with before and feel comfortable with, after all, you can only ask, it is them who wants you, they could always tell you to do one...
Of course, they're so desperate, they agree to your every demand.
The point I'm badly trying to make is, as repulsive as the idea that fat Sam will be our next manager, I don't even hate him or blame him for taking it. The board is entirely to blame for this mess, but unfortunately, they're not going anywhere.
