We are passive as a fan base. We view anything OTT as Kopite basically - like flag waving and marches.

And to be honest, in a way... I'm glad about that.

Thing is though, there has to be a line where a broadly sensible fan base like ours basically say enough is enough. The only thing that could rile us up in my view is if a large amount of fans felt they were getting the pee taken out of them by the board, and that is exactly the case IMO.

I think we have a board that shut up shop a long time ago and hoped to get away with minimal investment for a long time for the big return, or a constant trickle of profit. And sorry, as tinfoil hat as this sounds, I honestly believe something very dodgy is going on behind the scenes too. The lack of investment can be explained away largely by the board just doing enough to keep us at a certain level, but those accounts have looked fishy to me for a long time just from a common sense perspective.

Unless we're spending £10 a toilet roll something is wrong.

It's more down to doing well in the league to be fair. The fanbase can paper over the cracks if were competing, which for most of the last 11+ years we have.

If it suddenly turned and we ended up like Newcastle or Villa, then youd see more uproar.

No it really wasn't mate. A rational head there should have advised against it, carried on building the dialogue, making their case through editorials - and then when inaction from the board occurred or they shied away again, they can say that dialogue failed, they've been respectful to the clubs' wishes throughout all group discussions and acquiesced to privacy rules etc.

It would have made them the 'bigger man' in it and gave gravitas to their grievance.

Instead, it just showed petulance and basically threw any relevance they had straight out the window.
What dialogue can you have when your interests are diametrically opposed...."Hi Bill, understand you're a Blue like us, could you just go easy on the lack of investment, the constant passing up of opportunities, the asset sweating/stripping, the media briefings against fans, and reduce the asking price for the club to sensible levels thanks mate ?"
You're also wrongly assuming that there was some agreement that what was said at the meeting was private

Bah just getting into my stride and I got cut off.

Sorry lads

I was Paul by the way (still am lol)

Fair play to Collymore for raising the issues again, but it did seem a bit like groundhog day. Exactly the same debate as two years ago and I have a horrible feeling not much will change in next two years.

Well played Esk - you spoke the most sense on the show. I'd have like to have heard an hour of you discussing it with Stan rather than most of the other callers.

The dialogue would have been painfully simple - go to the meetings, 'hold the board to account', even if you know your being lied to, and keep the channel of communication open. Keep minutes of the meetings, meticulously detail everything and then in the event the club try to discredit you, you have ammunition to fire back.

The hope from the dialogue would be that although both parties are diametrically opposed, the facility would be a useful one - and it would have been as it could have turned into a reliable and insightful communication channel with the club if developed properly.

Unfortunately, thanks to what they done, what we now have is a Limited Company who have no obligation and have all the reason they need to hire people like the clown we have now to be comms director and basically ignore the fans entirely.

Don't want to beat the drum too much, but last post from me - wasn't it telling that the three worst calls included two of the pressure groups?
One told us not to boo, and the other told us to wave flags. That will really put the pressure on the board.

Everton football club ignoring invites to talk about issues but watching fans every move on Twitter an Facebook an blacklisting them! #efc

Again, this is completely unsurprising. Brian Doogan's record as comms director is basically this - gestapo tactics of suppressing a fanbase instead of communicating with them. He's been brought in specifically to gauge and repress for the board.

Take my hat off to you there Paul, you spoke very well and got some good points across, if there is further debate somewhere in the city (that Stan suggested), please attend!

Not a huge fan myself mate. But listened to it a bit recently for some reason, and them having a programme that isnt about the Sky 4 or the RS is some sort of record in itself!

I really don't understand all the negativity about TS. As for Stan Collymore, I've always thought he's one of the better pundits. Talked a lot of sense about the transfer window and the public tapping up and the effect it has on the players concerned.

Oh, and I'm not a Daily Star reader, either
