Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

There was a reason City bought Phillips. When fully fit and motivated he’s a good player. As long as the wages aren’t ridiculous then it makes sense to add another body into central midfield especially if Onana is going. We got lucky last season that injuries between Onana Garner and Gueye weren’t too bad, but if one of them received a big one we’d be relying on Gueye every match.

Phillips, plus more minutes for a youth player either Onyango or Warrington if they can step up, plus a replacement for Onana would leave us in an ok position in centre mid and might help us in the PSR position.

No way West ham paid his entire salary and nor would we
IF you believe this, which you shouldnt, not only did West Ham pay his whole wage, but they also put a little cherry on top for him

Forgotten man Kalvin Phillips is set for a pay rise with West Ham set to win the race to sign the Manchester City midfielder.

Having made just four appearances under Pep Guardiola this season, Phillips is eager to leave the Etihad to enhance his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad. Newcastle were also in for the 28-year-old, but the Hammers are in pole position to seal a loan deal for the former Leeds man, reports the Mirror. A deal could be sealed as early as next week.

As well as meeting his £130,000-per-week wages, West Ham are also said to have agreed to pay bonuses to a player who cost City £42million when he moved from Leeds in 2022.

I think people are crazy if they dont think Man City would want his full wage covered, we are a PL club, not some League One clowns.

But thats just my opinion.

There's a reason they're also trying to get rid and nobody else appears to be interested aside from us.

You would really really hope that had been replaced by an absolutely enormous point to prove after last season, and the City move in general. If it has, great. But surely possible to find a determined scrapper with a great engine from elsewhere without the baggage or the wages. So predictable.

Last Chance FC

His wages would be too high for a club with our dire financial problems, gutted to say this, but he also done nothing for a better West Ham team last year. You have to ask the question, why aren't West Ham keeping him ?

If that's true and we're paying full wages, it's an horrendous loan signing

Was he a poor player at Leeds or at Euro 2020? He’s had a couple of bad seasons no doubt but this is where we are as a club now. Were a basket case with instability in the board room, we’ve fired god knows how many managers recently, and we may have further points deductions to come as well as needing to sell our best assets. We also have no money for deals.

Do we really think risk free top young prospects who everyone else also wants are going to be choosing us? We need to be creative and take a few risks and maybe even be unpopular. Phillips falls into that category for me, everyone else might overlook him but if we can get him back to his Leeds levels it’s a decent risk for us

When city signed him, I thought then it was only to stop the RS getting him.
He doesn’t really fit in with Peps team, and he seems to have lost his way at WHU.
Maybe he’s better placed at a provincial team like us where his hard graft would be more appreciated.

Maybe not saying it will be a cheap loan but no way as a club can we pay it in full, can see us asking for them to pay a % of it with us still paying most

“Phillips still has four-and-a-half years left on his £150,000-a-week contract, and City were resigned to paying a huge chunk of that to smooth an exit path.
“Yet City insiders claim the player is ready to accept around half that figure to get his career moving in the right direction again.”

By all accounts City would rather sell Phillips than loan him and we certainly can't pay his wages so hopefully we can draw a line through this as merely speculation.

Sorry but I just can't get on board with these "where we are as a club now" posts. Yes, we are in a dire place but I'd be very surprised if there are little to no better options on the field and off the field in regards to Phillips.

His last good season was in 2020-2021. That's three years and he's struggled with injury and personal issues with his mental and physical state. The West Ham move was meant to be his revival and to try and get him back to Leeds levels and he was nowhere near that.

There's been nothing to suggest he can get anywhere back to those levels again.
