Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Nobody other than the club knows.

It's all guesswork, but evidently needed some sales in June.

I still maintain that if we didn't have shenanigans with Villa, or sell Godfrey/others - then Branthwaite would have been a Man Utd player this weekend for <£50m. The club have done well to prevent that - there's still a decent chance he's sold for big money after 30th.

Man Utd knew we were in trouble - they've cried like hell behind the scenes to force token letter/warnings etc.

I think we've also sold Goldfrey for less than we wanted - I reckon the comments from Ornstein that we'll keep him and let his deal run out before selling him for less is true. They'd have kept him if they had the choice. Dyche liked his versatility. But we've had to take a bit of a hit, just with PSR. We'd have done the same with Branthwaite for a bigger chunk.

It's a fairly simple equation ultimately - do you sell Godfrey at a discount now so that you can sell Branthwaite at his real value later (and help keep us compliant for the next PSR cycle, which is vitally important whilst we still need to rationalise the business and reduce our losses)? Or do you sell Branthwaite at a discount now and avoid the possibility of a big injury, some huge drop off in form, etcetera?

The answer to me given what we've seen of young Jarrad in the last 12-18 months is very clearly to sell other players in the squad at discounted values ie;- Godfrey. Presumably also whilst (according to reports) we've caved on DCLs initial valuation with a year left on the deal - I am near 99% sure he's gone in the next two/three days.

Well the first question was do you sell players for less than they're perhaps worth to avoid a point deduction.

Selling players in June, and when world football knows you've got a problem with PSR is never going to give full value. So much for it helping with sustainability eh...

The next question is what players do you have who you can sell.

The consensus not so long ago was we didn't have many sellable assets who'd make the difference. We had Calvert-Lewin, and Branthwaite - Onana and Pickford being at the Euros.

We've speculated about Godfrey, Maupay or academy players like Lukjanciks or Tyrer. But shifting them in June, and for the amount speculated as needed is unlikely.

Everton had to sell players this month - or face a point deduction. There's already a threat hanging over the club from a deferral last season.

If Villa weren't stuck themselves, they don't buy Dobbin/in effect a PSR exchange.

We've done well to get Godfrey out, but Atalanta are also picking him up on the cheap. Dyche wouldnt want to sell him, ideally. We turned down a bid from Milan in January for him.

Lets hope we've met PSR. Some fans thought we did just by selling Dobbin. We didn't. Hence Godfrey. I still think we're a little short and I predict we'll see some movement with Calvert-Lewin, or academy players by 30th.

Makes sense apart from the fact that it's
et cetera, not etcetera. :coffee:

I bang on about it I know but the threat from the interest hearing can't be underestimated and that's why I don't think we can take in too much before July- if we lose it could be 20 mil onto last season's calculation and in turn 20m more onto this season, which creates a 40m hole.

Indeed if we're just inside the (current) number now maybe our apparent 37m valuation of DCL isn't plucked from thin air - maybe that's about the amount we need to cover if we lose the hearing.

Let's hope not!

Bobble klaxon:

Apparently we've approached Hull for Jayden Philogene.
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have joined the race to sign Hull City star Jaden Philogene, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old shone for Hull in the Championship last season with 12 goals and six assists in 32 league appearances, having arrived from Aston Villa last summer.

Philogene is already in demand from some of Europe’s top clubs, with Barcelona’s interest revealed by Football Insider earlier this week [25 June].

Tottenham have a “concrete” interest in Philogene, while West Ham – whose ambitious transfer business is being spearheaded by technical director Tim Steidten – have entered preliminary talks over a move for the England Under-21 man.

Hull are anticipating the departure of Philogene this summer such is the level and calibre of interest, at a time when there are two years to run on the player’s contract.

:hayee:

Oh Pete.

I guess what we have going for us is a good English core and a more realistic guarantee of first team football. Could never begrudge a young lad wanting to go to Barca though.

Hopefully if we make a solid offer, he could see a real pathway with us
