Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Can’t agree based on the current position and perception of each club.

At the moment Palace is a good stepping stone for young talent, whereas we are a graveyard for young talent.

You also have to factor in the media coverage of each club - pretty much all Everton coverage has been negative for about 3 years.

This will take 5+ years to fix.
WE have literally just sold Simms, Gordon & Cannon for £60m, have £80m worth of Centre back in Jarrad Branthwaite

Feel i may have to change my inbetweeners meme to Palace

Stuff like this is so annoying Palace have a good run for half a dozen games and suddenly they're basically Real Madrid and we're the worst club in the world at absolutely everything its draining hearing it all the time about literally every single aspect.

Yeah, it’s the same way people banged on about how we were only going to be targeting old experienced PL players under Thelwell and Dyche and how we won’t give youth a chance. I don’t see many retractions from those people as we’ve bought Chermiti Beto Iroegbenum Ndiaye and the core of the team is based around Branthwaite, Garner, Onana, and McNeil. A lot of our current targets don’t seem to suggest this either.

Then there’s all the posts that say we won’t get anything for any of our players and Kev can’t sell a car and all this nonsense but are strangely silent when Iwobi Godfrey Dobbin Simms Cannon go for decent money.

100 agree maybe a little bit better but if everton is run correctly we can get above them. Is more money and potential here. A couple of the right players in and we can see a massive improvement here. I can see him going to them but i also think as you say is something he would regret not coming here
Whilst not incorrect, most clubs in the league will be thinking exactly this and has a fanbase that says the very same thing every year, all believing they'll be the ones to sail past everyone else. We've a long way to go before that might be us IMO.

How are we a graveyard for young talent? Most of Palaces talent has been bought in from other clubs who did the early development. Who have we bought in as young talent and ruined?

Maybe he comes here maybe he doesn't, I doubt the seat count will matter. West Ham's place has more seats than PSG but if I was thinking about money and trophies and working with top players etc, I know which one I'd prefer.

Who knows about a RB. Between Coleman, Young and Patterson it's not the most urgent position in the team (not that I see Patterson ever kicking a ball under Dyche if even Godfrey was ahead of him last season).
You're talking about domestic champions and regular champions league side there though. The difference between us an Palace is we're bigger, pay more wages, have better training facilities and a better stadium.

In the last 20 years Rooney Rodwell Barkley Gordon (academy), Coleman Stones Calvert Lewin Branthwaite (youth buys) Richarlison Lukaku Pickford (young established players we developed for huge value)

That’s before you get to all the academy players that had decent PL careers either with us or elsewhere.

There’s not going to be many non sky six teams who have developed players of the type of talent in that list. There’s Englands record scorer, their number 1 goalkeeper, current Everton and ROI captain, current starting CB for England and Man City, Richarlison and Lukaku have both been number 9 for top nations whilst at Everton.

It’s just completely incorrect to say we’re a grave yard for young talent, we’ve sent players to the top of the game.

We are just as much as a ‘stepping stone’ as Palace will ever be. See John Stones for recent history, and see Branthwaite and Onana for the here and now.

That perception stuff is just a load of nonsense, which leads to the likes of Swansea thinking they were a better option than Everton just because they won a trophy and finished above Everton a couple of times. In reality, Swansea were never a better option, regardless of any BS media ‘perception’.

As for the five year timeline for improvement, this type of nonsense wrecks my head. Football does not work that way, and if you try to adhere to some kind of five year plan of incremental improvement it will be doomed to failure.

The game changes way too quickly for five year plans. Newcastle went from a relegation battle to European qualification within a season, so have West Ham and Villa in recent seasons.

Football is littered with stories like this, we did it ourselves under Moyes and Royle, and wasn’t there some bloke call Kevin Brock that did a back pass that instigated Kendal’s turnaround from bottom half strugglers to winning European trophies within about 18 months?

It’s not gona take five years to ‘fix’ Everton. If the takeover goes ahead we are already fixed imo.
Dont think fixed but is a fresh start to kick on alot of work to be done. With professional people not the clown we have now

I dont think will sail past everyone and we do have alot of work to get back to what the club was. But i do think we can start to see change new stadium owners more cash being made and new deals bought into to increase the value at the club. With hopefully the new players bought in this window showing what the club is trying to do.
