Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

No one is joining us because we have a nice and shiny new stadium. Current chance of winning a trophy - practically zero, top half of prem finishes - unlikely at present. New stadium - I’m sold! 😄
It's not the sole deal breaker but it definitely comes into consideration. Play infront of 53k brand new, state of art, week in week out or some shabby little tin pot 25k stadium, week in week out?

Everton have a far higher ceiling than Crystal Palace, therefore I'd predict us winning something again before they do.

Transfers and that. Hope we sign a 1st choice right back.

This boggles my mind. Of course it matters. I take it you've never played sports yourself? The other points you've mentioned are other valuable points but to think the stadium and facilities of the stadium don't mean anything to a player is ridiculous imo.
No sadly I am not a professional football player, but if I was, I can assure you the building I go to work in every other week would not play a part in the thinking of what my ideal career path would look like.

I can't recall a long list of players who have made it clear that they decided to join Club A over Club B/C/D because the stadium is new, or a really nice new ground sealed the deal. It certainly doesn't hurt of course, but any realist would accept 99/100 a player is making decisions based on money/financial security, a chance to win trophies, location/family life, how they'll develop, who they'll play with and under, how it fits their plans etc etc.

Yes it’s nicer to play in a good state of the art stadium….agree with that. But that’s not the main reason they come and I would suggest is only a minor consideration.

So for instance if you compare our style of play to Palace’s (under their new manager) and certainly Ipswich, their style of play and how the manager uses the player in question (in this case the lad from Hull) will be a priority consideration for any player. Alongside that obviously salary, length of contract etc

If I'm an attacking flair player I'd much prefer to play for a manager who is of the same mind .

That plus wages and game time will be the forefront of a players mind , not the stadium or history of a club.

I'm not saying that those 2 things are unimportant but they will be way down the list IMO

I agree, still going to leave us in the brown stuff though
Not sure I quite buy that. We are talking about a lad that averages about 6 goals a season, has only gotten into double figures twice in 8 years here, is probably one of our higher earners, has never really cut the mustard under multiple managers, and is no stranger to an injury. If we can't find a No9 who is an upgrade on that then there really is no hope for us.

Kev's kryptonite is spotting a good Centre forward so far

I agree with some of your logic but on the other side of the coin, London is a draw for a lot of players that the North of England just isn’t. Because of that some players may favour even Palace over us for what they consider to be a better quality of life.

It's almost like different players might have different ideas on whether the stadium plays a part in their choice, almost like how some people in this thread think its a big draw and others don't. Mental.
Realistically I don't even think thats true though we have different opinions because we're looking at it in an abstract way where we're not actually affected by it but for the players they know whats important to them and it would be a tiny minority of cases when its the quality of a home stadium that makes them choose one club over another.

Yeah, the less said about Maupay the better and Beto was on his radar for about a year and he's certainly no great striker (although in fairness 22 goals in 65 games for Udinese is decent). Perhaps if Beto got the game time DCL gets we might actually have a striker that doesn't go half a season without a goal, or maybe scores more than half a dozen a year?

The training facilities are more important. That is their place of work, they go to the stadium once a week.

Expect some players would like the London scene -- it is our capital.

Others may be happy enough in Cheshire with their families and Liverpool / Manchester to hang out at occasionally.

That said, they are all travelling up and down the country anyway so...

Palace are not a better option than Everton in my view. They finished one point ahead of us last season.

We had all this years ago, with Palace claiming to be better than Everton, only for them to start crying when Cahill chose us over them. We then went and bought their best player off them (Andy Johnson) a few years after that.

I can remember Robbie Savage making the ridiculous decision to stay at Birmingham when he had the opportunity to join Everton. A decision that he now says he deeply regrets.

Can't believe it's even up for debate. One of their owners literally said he was desperate to sell his shares in palace so he could buy Everton.
