Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Or meddling hands are no longer here.
That’s why I never understood the criticism for the scouting network and the DoF. I’m not saying they are all great but we simply did not and still do not know how good they were because no one knew the extent of the interference from the axis of evil (BK/FM/AU) - once FM is fully out of the picture we will get a better view of how good they are

Oh, I know that sort of stuff is PR nonsense. OK, what about Ndiaye literally saying he wants to be the first player to score at BMD? That's some pretty intricate bluffing if that's what you're suggesting it is.
I assume they are given a piece of paper with "talking points" on it prior to the camera turning on.

Call me cynical, cos I am, but I think you give those highly paid mercenaries way too much credit.

Its not bluffing its true its just that he wouldn't have chosen to come here ahead of say Villa because we're getting anew stadium thats the point. The stadium will be something that makes the players say oh thats cool not something that makes them think wow I definitely have to move there.

Can't sell a player who doesn't agree to leave. Right now, it appears only Newcastle were interested in him. As a free agent next year, he'll have more options to choose from. Nothing unusual about a player wanting to make best possible use of their situation for the benefit of their own career.

I agree, still going to leave us in the brown stuff though

Boggles my mind that some fans honestly think a young, 20-something kids who have a shot at make their way as professional players in the Prem are swayed by what the stadium looks like. They'll be thinking about the money, the status, the playing time, their development and progression path, what their goals are etc. As if some kid is going to be arsed about some middle-aged bloke in a suit banging on about structural architecture and a lovely car park.
This boggles my mind. Of course it matters. I take it you've never played sports yourself? The other points you've mentioned are other valuable points but to think the stadium and facilities of the stadium don't mean anything to a player is ridiculous imo.

Yes, it adds to the overall impression the club makes. Money obviously talks but these guys are all going to have enough anyway so if the amounts are close little things can be a deciding factor like in any job. E.g. I may get paid slightly more somewhere else but my current job has a good commute and I like the people.

Pretty sure I've read somewhere this very week that one of our new youth players has a goal of playing at the new stadium. It is and will be enticing to players.
I'm sure a youth player probably did say that and I've no doubt the stadium will be very impressive on a matchday. But it's also exactly the kind of soundbite you expect players to say, so I hardly bank it as gospel. (If said player suddenly gets an offer from a team with a crap stadium but for 5x or 10x their currently salary, I wonder if that BMD goal would suddenly be quite so pertinent...)
