Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

CB, DM, playmaker and striker are key positions to strengthen for me. We will likely have to sell to bring all those in if that's Pickford and DCL so be it.

So you’re saying the club could be in hot water for falsifying their accounts. That some claim
They haven't 'falsified' the accounts, they've attributed a huge portion of our losses to the impact of COVID, with spurious reasons given such as a deflated transfer market that prevented us from selling players (even though we we had no success of selling players before it).

If it wasn't for the COVID allowances, we would have fallen miles and miles outside of the £105m loss threshold for non infrastructure spending that the Premier League allows over a three-year rolling period. I'm not of the opinion that we are out of the woods on this matter yet either

As I say, I reckon COVID will "save" us, but the Premier League aint falling for our bull.

Wasn’t just covid it was the early stadium costs, which I believe was something like 40mil and costs from the academy and laddies teams. And probably some others, included in the add backs

A lot of that isn't included in what makes up the losses in profit and sustainability rules. Clubs are allowed to grow 'organically' by investing beyond the threshold in their infrastructure. The rules mainly target rapid spending on transfer fees and wages.

Same.

There doesn't need to be any either. Just intelligent signings, you could improve a bunch of our positions with a solid 5-10m type signing.
We need at least one really strong, experienced CB and one really strong, experienced CM, and we'll bring in both even if we don't sell a single player.

How?

The funds necessary to finance these these two moves are provided by the departures of Delph, Tosun, Sigurdsson, Kenny, Van De Beek and El Ghazi - all of whom currently receive a weekly wage from Everton FC. These six players earn between £300k and £350k per week as a group, however five of them have played less than ten games for us all season and the sixth one is Kenny. Basically, they can all leave and we'd only need to bring in two players to replace them, provided the two new players make 30 appearances each next season - a prefectly reasonable demand. The two players we bring in should be in the £50k to £75k p/w wage bracket (at most) and we'd be cutting our outgoings by £200k (approx) per week in the process.

(I haven't included Begovic and Lonergan in this scenario because if we don't renew them we'll replace them with two new keepers.)

If we manage to sell a couple of players too, things start to get interesting... Roma are allegedly sniffing around Andre Gomes, with a fee of £16m mentioned: I doubt there's one in a thousand Evertonians who would reject that offer, because Gomes is reputed to be on £100k per week but has made about ten appearances this season. That money could and should be put to better use.

Allan is rumoured to be of interest to some Italian clubs. I love the guy, but if someone offers £10m I'd take it.

If both Gomes AND Allan leave for a combined £25m - ish, that's another £150k to 180k p/w off the payroll too... But we'd only need one player in to replace Allan, because Gomes almost never plays. Someone like Jason Knight from Derby: relatively low initial outlay to purchase, and a wage in the region of £40k p/w would get us what we need and see us make a considerable reduction in our outgoings.

The case of the three CBs has been discussed repeatedly on here so I'll not repeat it. But I'd also look to shift Rondon. If Gomes, Allan, two of the CBs and Rondon all leave, I think you'd have enough to bring in a CB, a CM and a CF and that's all you'd need to replace those five players.

Richarlison got a new agent today, usually a pretty good sign a player is off …

Always on the cards I suppose, not sure who’d buy him though
Half the big clubs in Europe would have Richarlison. If Carlo stays at Real he'd be interested, and I reckon PSG would be paying attention too. Man Utd and Arsenal would both make sense as well.

If I was Richi I'd want a move to Monaco. No income tax.

Are you not concerned that with 11 outgoings and only 3 incomings we would not be light in numbers?

I mean I get it, half the players dont play, but thats part of the reason we are in a relegation dogfight, also with the 5 subs next season, a very small squad would be a risk.

I dont have the answers either by the way, no real idea how we tackle the mess we have.

It's a risk I feel we have to take. I'm of the opinion that we have a Frankenstein's monster of a squad that will take us down unless we make radical changes. It will be very difficult to turn over that many players but it's definitely possible.

We as fans however will have to realign our expectations that this will be a club severely under pressure for the next couple of seasons at least and consolidating ourselves back in midtable would be a success for Lampard whilst he builds a young, hungry side.

We will be stuck with some players, that’s the way it will be, hopefully we can shift enough to balance that out.

Probably we will loan some IE Gbamin, Gomes

We could still move them on even for multi-year loans where their wages are covered...saving us money 'on the books'.

….I think it’ll be difficult, Zat. Sadly, the most sellable asset is Richarlison. Issue is, we really need him to stay. Of the others, do we think any are keen to move? Maybe Mina.

it then becomes a matter of;

How long is left on contract?
Does another team want the player? Can they meet the clubs valuation and make the move financially attractive to the player.

We know this isn’t rocket science. If a move is to be financially attractive for somebody like Keane, I suspect we’d have to almost give him away given his salary and length of contract. Sadly, the lure of regular football is secondary for these blokes & I can’t blame them for that.

As @Stephenlloyd suggests, loans might be the only way of getting some off the books.

1: Sigurdsson out of contract
2: Kenny out of contract
3: Tosun out of contract
4: Delph out of contract
5: Lonergan out of contract
6: Van De Beek end of loan
7: El Ghazi end of loan
8: Kean Pretty much gone anyway
9: Allan Rumours of Napoli
10: Mina sold with one year left
11: Holgate sold
12: Keane sold
13: Gomes sold/loan
14: Gbamin sold/loan
15: Rondon sold/loan
16: Virginia loan becoming permanent

I dont see why we wouldnt be able to shift most if not all of these 16 players.

We could take a hit on some but with the rules on amortized payments we'd be able to punt the likes of Gomes for free if needs be, or lower fees for those like Keane to supplement wages.

Sell two of Mina, Keane and Holgate and we'd easily buy a £30m CB, because in accounting the £30m is spread over the length of the contract. The "spend" in year one of a four-year contract for a £30m player is £7.5m.

With Lampards Chelsea connection it would be a shame if we didnt work the loan market with them.

There may be another Livramento/Lamptey/Guehi we could bring in like Colwill.

If we did move on Mina and Holgate for say £20mil and brought in Colwill for less..would we look any worse?
