Interested to know which 5/10mil players could improve us
No idea this season as I don't know who is available etc but looking back to last summer Craig Dawson improved West Ham for a 2m layout, Jack Harrison has been a good signing for Leeds for 11m I think it was. Jose Sa has done well for Wolves for 8m etc.

It's not a strict science or anything but we really need to stop spending 20-30m on squad players. You can pay big money for your stars, of course until they play we wont know if they will end up stars or not but we fall into the same trap every season.

5M worth of traffic cones would be more productive than the likes of Gomes and Tosun.

Not at a price we'd swallow or a wage he'd want. He's had one amazing season in his career and then struggled to make an impact after a fairly serious injury. He needs to show he is more than a one season wonder for anyone to be willing to take him on terms we or him would accept.
2 seasons and he was averaging a goal every 2.7 games in his first 2 seasons Which is basically better than the majority of wide strikers in the league and some centre forwards who are considered great players.

Yes the last couple of seasons have been disappointing, quite a few factors, different managers, different systems and loads of different players. Injuries and playing alongside bang average players, I bet in 4 seasons he’s played in 30+ different front three’s.

I’m not really sure they would improve us, Dawson has been a journeyman, ok he’s done well at West Ham, but he walked into a settled team on the up.

Sa has also looked good to be fair,

Harrison works hard and sometimes looks a good player and has a decent scoring record in the prem, he does play for a team who go all out attack though, score loads and concede even more.

I’d rather take a punt on younger players with potential

I don't think the point is that those players in particular would improve us, they're just examples to show you can buy players who do you a decent job for that sort of fee. I've been saying it for years, we've been spending £20-30m on every player we sign to effectively compete with teams like Palace and Southampton who aren't doing anything like that. Finishing midtable in this league does not require you to have a squad full of £20m+ players. It blows my mind that people moan constantly about the mess we're in and then advocate us continuing to do exactly the same things that got us here.

Are you not concerned that with 11 outgoings and only 3 incomings we would not be light in numbers?

I mean I get it, half the players dont play, but thats part of the reason we are in a relegation dogfight, also with the 5 subs next season, a very small squad would be a risk.

I dont have the answers either by the way, no real idea how we tackle the mess we have.

I’d normally be bothered by huge numbers of outgoings and incomings but this squad play like a bunch of strangers most weeks anyway so I don’t think further disruption or unsettling of squad unity is possible really. The more we can turnover the better on my opinion. We have a lot of players who have offered little or nothing this season and that’s before we even get into the problems with those who are playing.

When Moshiri came in, he wasn’t spending all this money to compete with Southampton and Crystal Palace. And to be fair they weren’t competing with us the first few years. We’ve just bought poor players and employed the wrong people/managers.

There’s a lot of other teams spending similar amounts to ourselves around mid table. Like villa, wolves last season, Leicester. After the top 6 There’s 4/5 team after that spending quite a lot of money, including us.

Yes we should be challenging for Europe every year witt the money we’ve spent. Even Brighton have spent a lot of money, Bournemouth spent loads and went down. Burnley are one club who have massively over performed on their spending, but it was always going to catch them up, because of so many more teams in the league spending money. Palace I think spent 70mil last summer.

This league is tough, you won’t finish mid table spending little money and you won’t get near the European places unless you spend. It’s spending wisely that has held us back.
Hopefully that will change and we will find some bargains, but they will need to be mixed in with 30mil signings as well.

The rest of your post is made irrelevant by the last sentence. Literally nobody has argued against that, it's the entire point of the argument.

Thats not what im saying Stephen, at all.

We have submitted our accounts, they are perfectly fine, all legal, they show all loses.

What im saying is the rumours flying around that everything is fine and all our loses have been written off by the Premier League is unknown at this point.

Im not expecting any sanctions, but I dont believe that the Premier League have accepted that the reason we are way over the threshold is due to covid, but again, im not expecting any sanctions, just a heavily restricted balance sheet in some way.

Regarding the Covid excuse. I wonder just how true it is, and whether it is an actual blag or not? For example, if there is proof that Juventus delayed their near 25 million purchase of Moise Kean ‘because of Covid’ our accounts are genuinely 25 million pound down ‘because of Covid’. There may be more proof than people think about the Covid excuse.

But every club does it, it’s not like it’s a loophole we’re exploiting.

Also it’s not necessarily the same fees every year. Because your expensive signings. Either you move on for profit or you give them new deals. Like Pickford, Keane and Richarlison would have probably cost 20mil in fee’s after they all signed new deals, that figure probably halved.

And every season you will sell players, or have players OOC. So I don’s see it being an issue.

You sound like you won’t the club to follow last summer for another 2/3 yrs, while selling players, to have a total reset. The problem there is we will then be under relegation pressure every season, potentially costing the club 100’s Of millions, if we go down. That’s why if we sell big players this summer, they will spend money on replacements.

My original post said I thought we'd spend but less than we brought in as we need to fix our balance sheet which is unsustainable. Nowhere did I suggest that I want a near zero transfer budget for years. If we don't attempt to fix our balance sheet we'll get points deductions which will also create relegation pressure.

I guess I just don't think football manager and real life are the same.

Why would we get a points deduction, when we haven’t broken any rules.

We can stay 1 pound under the threshold for the next 5 yrs. if Moshiri and the club want to, that’s up to them.
