Oh Tobias

These players may not hit the ground running. Theres plenty of cases where foreign players take 6-12months to settle in.

Look at Patterson and Mykolenko (who youve been slating) as current examples.

Id be happy if we had done this over the past couple of summers and factor in a finish around lower mid table. Thats in knowledge that wed be building a new young squad.

But some...are too impatient :)

Certainly not steroids...hows the gym going?

….not convinced with Mykolenko but I can’t help but like the lad.

I really hope it turns out for us and him but his defending is poor. It’s not as if he was a cheap purchase, I certainly wouldn’t have advised paying that much for him.

As far as I know our biggest issue is the % of wages relative to turnover. I think I saw recently it was as high as 86%.

I think we started to address that issue last summer and hopefully will go further this year.
We know that Tosun, Delph, Sigurdsson and Kenny are out of contract and the only one that just may be kept( if he is happy to be a squad player is Kenny.
I expect we will also see some younger players leave as well but the savings there won't be significant.

There are also a number of other players likely to leave for one reason or another.
Van De Beek and El Ghazi will go back to their parent clubs and I have no idea what will happen with Dele.

Richarlison is likely to leave I feel and Mina as well unless he signs a new contract shortly.... These will probably generate our transfer budget for the summer but they will also mean substantial savings on wages and as I understand it will greatly help in our FFP situation.

Holgate, Gomes, Allan are three others that may well leave and should generate additional funds as well.
Gomes, started in the team but seems to have become peripheral.
Allan, possibly would like to return to Italy and get a contract to see him up to the end of his career (I would be perfectly happy if he stayed, a very decent player)
Holgate, just hasn't nailed down a position, Branthwaite and Welch will be pushing hard next season and we will 100% get a new centrehalf this summer and I think Holgate will now want to play every week.

Finally, my hope is that we will start to sign players with most of their careers ahead of them rather than behind and initially at least their wages may not be as high as the players they are replacing.

As a caveat to that I expect that we certainly will be looking at the out of contract market.

Why would we get a points deduction, when we haven’t broken any rules.

We can stay 1 pound under the threshold for the next 5 yrs. if Moshiri and the club want to, that’s up to them.
Can they? Can they really manage to do that and spend the sums you and Zac keep talking about?

Take a look at the last accounts. How many more outrageous COVID reductions can we continue to make up? The wage to revenue ratio requires a lot more than letting Delph, Tosun and Kenny going on a free.

I’m not an accountant, not my job to look at the books. Everton have done their accounts and are inside the rules. And they’re a year behind, next years, for this season will look better. As some high earners moved on, the Digne money which I know part of that has been spent, but wages must have dropped 25mil.

Well we won’t spend much if we only shift the OOC players. I think we will if we sell some of our best players, which is the way I’d go. But the club may have other ideas.

If you total the OOC players
Kenny
Tosun
Siggurdsson
Delph

Then maybe we try to shift
Mina
Allan
Both only have a year left
Maybe loan Gbamin again
Sell a few youngsters
Broadhead
Simms
Do the Kean deal a year early

You’re probably looking at 50/60 mil on the books saved and wages about 30mil
Out of them players only Allan is a regular, Mina would be to of course, but going off this season.
Say the club go that way. You could buy a CB we’ve been linked with the lad from Mainz or the Chelsea youngster. 2x CM’s maybe another youngster for 20mil? And maybe a loan? and another you forward/wide player. Johnson forest who may also cost 20mil.

So you could be looking at 60mil spread over 4/5yrs and 10mil in wages. So the club could save 50mil on fees and wages next year, We will soon find out which way the club go.

I thought he was fantastic defensively the other day. Ok he didn’t have a quality attacking RB to deal with, but he had sancho, Rashford and later on Elanga.

I agree to an extent, but some of our worst signings relate to young players that were supposed to have a resale value, but they've just been crap and we can't get rid of them. Pound for pound I normally say that Siggy is our worst ever signing, however we've really missed Siggy's input this season. Siggy's been a nightmare, but at least he's actually contributed over the years, unlike the likes of Gbamin.
Know what you mean but to be fair Gbamin is a freak case. You can't account for injuries like that.

Kean would be in a similar boat though I suppose.

I agree with everything you say there, the difficulty with wages though is they're never as easy to reduce as people suggest. A lot of players will have automatic wage increases built in to their contracts, maybe as much as a 10% increase in some cases. Then you get players like Gordon who got a contract a couple of years ago when he was a young lad on the fringes, you can imagine his agent knocking on the door saying he's a key player for you now he wants double that. The same applies if you bump the likes of Branthwaite up the pecking order, although to a lesser extent. Then you've got the possibility of some players just becoming next year's equivalents of Tosun and Delph. We definitely need a better striker than Rondon as an option and after Townsend's injury you can imagine him potentially becoming unwanted, but there's a good chance that they're both going to end up staying on the wage bill.
