Another thing you can use five subs now if anything that means you need more strength in depth. This club is a farce if we have just sold our best player and don't bring at least two in in forward areas.
Problem isn’t bringing in players, it’s not willing to pay a massive amount up front to clubs that’s hampering things supposedly

Not seen him, but....

Last summer Leicester signed Soumare from Lille. He was a regular starter as DM for the Ligue 1 champions. He was terrible for Leicester. So bad that Mendy, that was not registered to play in the league before January, became a regular and a massive upgrade on Soumare. Rodgers could hardly find place for Soumare in the match day squad second half of the season.

Onana is not a regular starter for Lille. A Lille side that no longer are champions but finished 10th in the league last season.

I dont doubt that Onana is talented and has great potential, but is he ready for Premier League? Can Everton spend big money to sign him and expect him to need 6-18 months before he starts matches?

Liverpool spent £40 million on Fabinho and waited 5 months before they played him in the league. Gueye was not great for Villa his first season. Veretout struggled big time.

It is different with offensive players. You can be patient with them. Give them 15-30 minutes per match. Waiting for them to be ready. You can not do that with central midfielders. You need to wait for them to be ready. And without matching in Europe, that wait can be long.
Kante, Bissouma, Tielemans, Moutinho, Bruno Guimaraes etc.

You can get massive successes and massive failures no matter where you buy from. Always got to consider what the player is good at how it will translate to this league.

The deal is all about potential. Hes not a Fabinho or a Guimaraes who can come in with a base level of ability that would give us confidence. Incidentally both of those players i championed for us to sign.

With Onana its a DM whose 6'5 that ticks a lot of boxes...potentially.

As with Patterson, Branthwaite and Gordon with that age you wont get the consistency or peak level...nor would you know exactly what you have.

It would be a player for Lampard to mould and we know hes got a good track record of improving youth.

Aside from.our u23 (now u21) side we dont have any top young midfielders...weve got players around the squad that were brought in who are u21 but not midfield signings.

We also dont NEED him to hit the ground running...he can be eased in.

This is a rebuilding stage.

Who's playing dm while he's getting acclimated zat? We definitely need someone who can slot in swiftly. I'm open to getting him in, but a more complete player would be preferred. Dont want a patterson situation.

No mate.

Here's my first post calling Dele overrated. Ignore the defending Ross bit.

Awe man all this proves is that you've always had questionable football takes....its not just a recent phenomenon

the problem of wasteful purchases in the past - we are now completely gun shy, which is doing us no favours at all in a serious market.

Young lad who broke through at Wolves end of season now looking like he could be out for the majority of the season … Would say that makes any Gibbs-White deal more difficult given their lack of attacking options
