Our squad is poor in loads of areas mate. I dont think that's any revelation.

Would you have Davies, or Allan or Gomes in the 6 ahead of Godfrey?

5 signings (though they'd need to be the "right" signings) and we'd address the biggest issues we have and I'd be vaguely confident about the season ahead because there are, despite the evidence of last season, some decent players in that squad if surrounded by the right quality

Left-sided centre back
holding midfielder
box-to-box midfielder
left-footed winger
striker (ideally one versatile enough to play across the line)

I could probably live without the centre back if push comes to shove

Get those in and you could sell Mina, Gbamin, Gomes and Allan

We stopped making signings as soon as Usmanov's yacht was unavailable for negotiations. Coincidence? I think not!

I counted 20 players in our squad (not including lonerghan) that our over 23 so not defined as young players. We will have 9 subs to select from just like last season, barring another huge influx of injuries it will be your gomes', gbamin's, davies', rondon''s, townsend''s & alli''s coming off the bench ahead of any kid.
Managers will always pick your experienced high earning players ahead of a kid.
The only teams that can afford to do this will be clubs that can be 3-0 up after 60 odd minutes etc. We aren't capible of that

The thing is of the 20 players over 23,you have Townsend, injured for at least 6 months, Mina, who is constantly injured, Allan, often injured and Gomes, again injury prone. Add to the mix, Rondon, who is just not good enough and the run of the mill injuries that any team will pick up over the course of a season and I think we will see young players getting minutes this season.

Since it now seems likely, unless new signings trigger change, we’re sticking with the crap formation it is now imperative we sign 1-2 proper central midfielders. Also don’t really understand the links to Winks and Gilmour since they can’t play in this.

I am a probably the biggest doom monger when it comes to Chelsea so I really do applaud supporters who always expect ( not hope ) things from their clubs.

That said I do think even if Mina and DCL do indeed play 35 + games to finish in the top 8 is way way too opomistic.

In no particular order I think these will be above you.

WHU, Spurs, Liverpool, City, Utd, Arsenal, Us, Newcastle, Palace, Villa

Teams you could be above but far from sure

Southampton, Brighton, Forest, Leeds,Brentford, Wolves, Leicester

Teams if you don’t finish above you will be in real trouble

Bournemouth, Fulham

There are still 45 days left in this TW and of course clubs still can do a massive amount of business there’s absolutely no doubt that you likewise could be bringing in a number of players. If you rely on loans that will be ok in terms of potential but you need PL experience and not oldies

Didn't Lampard say after the game that we played 343 because we don't have a number 6 at the moment?

The Winks and Gilmour links make perfect sense if that's true

I suspect the club would dearly like to get Mina's wages off the books this summer, regardless of how good he is

He did 24 and 28 the 2 seasons before last. I don't think its unreasonable that we get that out of him if we aren't rushing him back to stop the bleeding when he's clearly not fit.

To get anything out of DCL we need to replace creativity lost from Digne, James and the one who shall remain unnamed.
