Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

It will be interesting to see how the 5 sub rule works out. For clubs like present day Everton, it will surely mean increased chances of game time for the younger players.
I counted 20 players in our squad (not including lonerghan) that our over 23 so not defined as young players. We will have 9 subs to select from just like last season, barring another huge influx of injuries it will be your gomes', gbamin's, davies', rondon''s, townsend''s & alli''s coming off the bench ahead of any kid.
Managers will always pick your experienced high earning players ahead of a kid.
The only teams that can afford to do this will be clubs that can be 3-0 up after 60 odd minutes etc. We aren't capible of that

Let's hope we don't go with 2 sub GK on bench. Need to have options. A kid might get a chance and thrive.

Would you say that Myko, Patterson, Branthwaite, Nkounkou and Gordon would be "Good enough" for a 25 man squad?

I'd suggest only Nkounkou has some work to do.

Whatever funds we have needs to go on players in that age bracket. Chukwuemeka has been mentioned/suggested from Villa at £20mil. England u19 captain.

Surely it makes more sense to sign MGW + him over Cornet.

Lampard/Thelwell this window should be going for high potential English kids...theres enough experience in the squad.

What makes you think the lad from Villa would sign here? Heard Barca were interested so any "notional" interest from Everton would be laughed at by player and his club.

Forest havent played in the league for so long, it's just a huge gap to climb. I see them as 20th.

Leeds manager is awful and they were lucky to survive. Without Phillip's they have been comfortable bottom 3 form. Throw in Raphina now out, and I think they are probably at 20 point ish. Theyve then signed a few players. So you are weighing up what those new players do. But as we both know, gelling lots of new players straight away is tough.

Brentford could be a surprise strugglers too. They strike me a bit like Leeds and Sheffield United. Rode a Crest of a way, but will come crashing down. Without Eriksen joining I think they go down. Probably after the first 10-15 games they are relegation form for me.

Of some of the others, Palace have lost Gallacher, and had the best injury record last season. Brighton have lost Bissouma, again what impact?

Wolves and Southampton fell away last season too. If you said to me, of all the teams above, do I think we will finish above each, I'd probably say yes. When you get to the Newcastles, Villas even West Ham, I start thinking I'm not sure. That's where I pitch us.

The biggest thing for us will be keeping players fit though. If Mina and DCL played 35 games, we would be in the top 8.

I am a probably the biggest doom monger when it comes to Chelsea so I really do applaud supporters who always expect ( not hope ) things from their clubs.

That said I do think even if Mina and DCL do indeed play 35 + games to finish in the top 8 is way way too opomistic.

In no particular order I think these will be above you.

WHU, Spurs, Liverpool, City, Utd, Arsenal, Us, Newcastle, Palace, Villa

Teams you could be above but far from sure

Southampton, Brighton, Forest, Leeds,Brentford, Wolves, Leicester

Teams if you don’t finish above you will be in real trouble

Bournemouth, Fulham

There are still 45 days left in this TW and of course clubs still can do a massive amount of business there’s absolutely no doubt that you likewise could be bringing in a number of players. If you rely on loans that will be ok in terms of potential but you need PL experience and not oldies

Wouldn't count Palace or Villa to finish above us - Palace were incredible lucky on injuries last season and Gallacher was a 'free' 40m player for them, still only managed the same number of wins as the worst performing Everton team in a loooooooooong time, Villa are turd, with a awful manager to boot.

Still not sure on Newcastle either, few good players but a lot of just run of the mill players too, and how faces pressure last season was almost a free hit for him

You're entitled to your views mate, and I'm not a wild optimist.

On the list you've mentioned, there is no reason we cant finish above Palace, Newcastle, Villa, West Ham etc. I'm not saying we will, but we could. Last season was a major aberration, in the season before that we got 59 points which would have been 6th this season. That was with a major tail off at the back end as well.

The other point, is over the last 2 seasons (and I think more than that but havent looked) Mina makes a huge difference. 2 years ago, we would come 3rd with his PPG. Last season, we would again finish in the top 8. DCL is similar but not as pronounced.

A lot of people are making an easy mistake, and overly generalizing from 1 season, and secondly over emphasising transfers.

I mean, any argument that says we cant finish above Crystal Palace seems very flawed to me. Theyve lost a key player in Gallacher. They had the best injuries in the league last year. In what is their best PL season, and our worst in about 20 years, they finished above us. The idea that this is now normal seems without much credence to be honest.

None of that means we will finish above all of them. But if we have our key players fit, we have a better team than a lot of those teams above. Its evidence by the fact we defeat the top 6 a lot, and just 1 season ago, we were in the top 4 for most of the season.

I think we are in for a worrying season as things stand, I know the other night was a pre season and it was our 1st one at that, but we didn't create anything, apart from the shot from Rondon 2nd half we never made their goalkeeper save anything.

I really do think we will struggle to score this season with the current players

Not a bad summary and difficult to argue with any of your points. I think Everton's biggest risk is injuries, hence the need for a few more signings. Hopefully Frank will be able to get a few in before the end of the window. I really hate the fact that the season starts before the transfer window shuts. They should change that imo

Injuries is a big risk mate.

If we have a season where we are the worst in the league again, we will be in serious trouble. But honestly reckon there are probably 10/12 teams like that.

I also hate the window shuts when it does. Dont know why they did that.

We need three players added, two in cm one who can play across the forward positions - preferably right
