Where does a playmaker fit in the 5-2-3 formation?

We must be adaptable I'm thinking Frank is playing a system that is best for the current crop of players, a decent playmaker would surely change that system.

The two inside forwards are the playmakers really with wing backs pushing on.

Still prefer a 5-2-1-2 personally, two sttikers with a 10 linking, but you need real athletic and quality wing backs for htat.

It also makes all our wingers redundant...

I tell you what makes sense, it might seem a little left field, you would get defensive stability and better attacking options, a number 9, wingers AND a playmaker..... 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, crazy I know.

£25m up front rising to £42.5m for MGW is hilarious. Would’ve been carnage on here if we’d have spent that on him

I do think a bit of perspective is needed. Frustrating not to have a striker but at the end of the day we lost to Chelsea and Villa away. Not exactly earth shattering revelations.

Could end up 532 and ditch the wide forwards. Not sure what the point is of them if they are as productive as Grey Gordon. Bring in someone who can play as a lone striker or partner to DCL when fit

If we sold Gordon for a playmaker and a second striker to play 352 our only available wingers would be Gray and McNeil, I wouldn’t be too worried about making them redundant. They’d still offer tactical options but you wouldn’t build a team and a system around them.

Is anyone really that excited about either? I mean, we are talking about the 2nd and 3rd top scorers on the Southampton squad that finished one spot above us last year on equal goals.

I'm as glass half full as most, but that is not exactly aspirational....

Definitely is frustrating and obviously a bit of bad look regarding injuries but even so to be going into the season with rondon as our back up is shattering
