I feel the players mentality is every bit as important as their actual footballing ability. How many of our players have we seen in the last few years, looking totally disinterested in putting in anything resembling a shift on the pitch? That might be true but the problem is he is no different of a player he was when the Leeds attempted signing happened. The difference of course is now you are paying an inflated Manchester United by association price. All while he hasn't provided a large enough sample, gotten older and isn't now a value proposition the way he was at Swansea.
I just think we fall for this two often looking for cast offs of larger clubs and don't look elsewhere where value is at least afforded for similar risk. Look at the like of Christos Tzolis to name one player as an option comparatively who despite playing in Greece is possibly a higher end prospect currently and would likely be a bet at a far cheaper risk.
A loan is a different question but we should be looking at teams below us either in resources internationally or below us in position or table more often than we do.
Gomes, Sigurdsson, Davies at times, Richarlison, Bernard, Iwobi, Delph. It's a basic requirement to be "at it" in the premier league. Any player can have an off day, but continuous lack lustre performances, where some of them listed, make sure they are unavailable for the pass, is criminal. They are not prepared to sprint into space to receive. Not prepared to make a run from deep. The non stop sideways and backwards passes are also a symptom of this "style" of play, from players, who are busy doing NOTHING. It creates a team bereft of confidence to attempt a forward ball over the top of the full back, or down the sides of centre halves.
We need shut of these type of players. Their attitude spreads like a cancer throughout the team and the club. Stealing a living, some of them...
