But did we do this when Carlo came, or Koeman?

To be honest if we do very little in terms of incomes this summer I can live with it becuase the squad we have should do better under Rafael then it did with Carlos uninspring tactics.
No and that's part of the problem end of the day DOF should be the one compiling targets and coach is involved in the process but not dictating it but we hire managers that don't fit this model so mixed recruitment policy it is... Which doesn't really work.

We need a right back, midfielder, winger minimum... Plus a striker and back up keeper.

That's 5 players, if we want quality, and real quality that's going to cost over 100m unless we get very lucky on some cheaper players we have scouted.

We need to find another Gueye going cheap and un noticed

The most inspiring tactics ever couldn't fix our right hand side. We really need someone to compete/take over from Coleman and never play Iwobi again

Agree also depends what we can shift out. I presume Kean, James, Bernard, Iwobi, Kenny one of Mina or Holgate will be sold. Maybe even Richy depending on bids. We could go for a couple of loans too they've usually worked for us in the past.

That might not be true. Carlo didn't even try anything else when James was unavailable. Who knows what else we could try to do. Richarlison was good on the right under Silva.

I wasn't aware his injuries were that bad before this latest knee injury. If he was fit (as in not been out for the last 6 months) he likely would have been in the Brazilian squad for the Copa.

We know he can be effective in the Premier League and just because he didn't fit in at Barcelona doesn't mean he couldn't do a job for us. We really are devoid of attacking flair without James. I'd much prefer we kept James like.

Said before, there aren't too many players like this around that do it consistently, especially in the Premier.

He had a fair few lay offs at Bayern mate. And that's the thing, I don't think he is consistent.

The only 'benefit' (use the term loosely) of losing James would be his wages off the books. But if we just go in and get a poor man's James, who also has injury issues and similar issues as Rafael with previous links to Liverpool, and is definitely on the downward trajectory, just not sure it's wise.

He's not a bad player by any means, just if James does go, think 120-150k a week wages could be better spent on two players than one more who will have similar issues.

I imagine that the planned transfer targets agreed with Carlo the Rat have been binned and not presented to Rafael as a fait accompli. He will surely be asked to set out who he would like to consider. Some names might be common to both short lists.
The thing is a lot of deals take months some take years, I should imagine some deals are further down the road that RB will have had to ok or not and then they look at what else they need. It also depends who they can move out too...

This is true, though I do think Richy is better from the left and am hoping he's shunted back out there under Benitez. I prefer James centrally too but he was effective enough off the left. Still need a winger and RB imo

My thing is Richarlison's style of play at it's best is about finding space in the box so it doesn't matter so much where he starts while Bernard and Iwobi both need to come toward the center on their strong foot. I really think we'll be better that way right now at least.
