I'm not sure you saw Fabio Aurelio play if you're including him on that list! Merino at Newcastle would be a much better inclusion
I remember him purely as a set piece master tbh, say Aurelio i think free kicks

but ok strike him from the list, the point still stands, judging him purely off newcastle is ridiculous

The constant referencing to Newcastle (from so many people not just you) is beyond boring, the man has managed alot of clubs on alot of different budgets

here is a list of a few players signed by Rafael Benitez at places like Valencia, Liverpool, Real and Napoli

Gonzalo Higuain

Fernando Torres

Matteo Kovacic

Danilo

Javier Mascherano

Xabi Alonso

Manolo Gabbidiani

Raul Albiol

Jorginho

Dries Mertens

Kalidou Koulibaly

Duvan Zapata

Marco Asensio

Phillip Coutinho

Lucas Vasquez

Fabio Aurelio

just for some perspective
Now list the mountain of rubbish players he signed at all the clubs......

Hopefully start to see some action in the market in the next couple of weeks.
We need outs as badly ( perhaps even more important) than we need ins.
Deals for JJK , Bernard, Kean and ( the rumoured one) for Sigurdsson should happen as quickly as possible. Delph , Gomes and Iwobi out the door would be a bonus.
Benitez has a reputation for putting in a lot of organisational work with defense and I think he will want personal in place ASAP.
If nothing else Benitez will put Brands under pressure, which is a good thing.

the first two will have gone down significantly in value just cos of their age. The only reason you buy players at that age is if you think they will guarantee a v high performance, but I don't think we got that with them. Mixed bag. Allan had some shocking displays, and Doucoure often looked like he didn't know what to do with the ball despite his impressive energy.

Do you not think their performance was a lot better than what went before?

He had a fair few lay offs at Bayern mate. And that's the thing, I don't think he is consistent.

The only 'benefit' (use the term loosely) of losing James would be his wages off the books. But if we just go in and get a poor man's James, who also has injury issues and similar issues as Rafael with previous links to Liverpool, and is definitely on the downward trajectory, just not sure it's wise.

He's not a bad player by any means, just if James does go, think 120-150k a week wages could be better spent on two players than one more who will have similar issues.
If he's been that injury prone he needs to rethink those salary demands. I agree not on those wages
