I feel like this Allan Saint-Maximin story is something that has been bouncing round on social media because people have just looked at Newcastle and thought "benitez used to manage Newcastle, who would he want to take to Everton?" ignoring the fact that Saint-Maximin joined Newcastle after Benitez left.

Never ever said Leigh Griffiths would be world class. Not once. Back in the pre-moshiri era when we had no money I suggested him based off a great season at Hibs because he was affordable. I never acted like he was this amazing player

I did say we should sign Virgil Van Dijk when he was still at Celtic because he was going to be a big star

£15m is a cracking price for Dumfries.

Him and Digne bombing forward and getting balls into DCL would be boss.

…I also think he could get on the end of things coming in from Digne.

Wide midfielders would hate having to track back with him, I’d also prefer him to Aaron’s.

If you do ahve two full backs who can provide goals/assists in open play, it can justify having the two holding mids in a 4231.

We need something from the right, we were so one dimensional last season. James drifts in and we have nothing there.

We dont have any holding midfielders though.

If we signed Dumfries and went with that system then i imagine Doucoure would be playing both right sided defensive mid and right back.

We definitely need a right back and if were not in for Aarons due to price then we should be after Emerson at Barca -- theyre desperate for money.

I dont see james on the right...hes the centre of the 3 in a 4231.

I think the time to go for Barbosa would have been on loan when he was at Inter.

With Benitez, we dont really know what formation he wants to put out. Its been said that he favours the 4231 in which case (on paper) we would only 'need' a starting right back and a right sided attacker.

…I’m not hung up on ‘systems’, Zat, but my preference is always a back four. Playing 3 CBs invariably ends up a back 5.

if you look at Digne, I reckon he was much more of an attacking threat playing full back than further up the pitch. Play full backs as full backs, have the right partner/blend ahead of them. Steven/Stevens; Pienaar/Baines; Van den Hauwe/Sheedy. Real attacking threat from both sides.

I think you’re being a bit hopeful selling that lot. The only player Brands has managed to sell in 3 years was Schniederlin
