Everton Summer transfers 2021

It's a back up keeper role. They may never play a first team game for us. he is experienced though so could probably help Pickford quite a bit.

I don't see any reason to be concerned about this one at all really.
Because it made a huge difference having a goalkeeper who could push Pickford and actually play instead of him - regardless of fitness or suspension. It is no coincidence that Pickford performed his best since his first season with us, when he was pushed by Olsen.

Begovic is a diabolically bad GK these days. If Pickford is in bad form, he will stay in goal. If Pickford is injured and we have to play this fella, we will ship goals for fun. It would be a ludicrously bad signing- up there with Delph and Tosun (only for less ££).

I'm extremely concerned by our transfer policy.

And we will. But most teams haven't really strengthened yet.

14 have made signings - but if you actually look at what they've signed, it's pretty scarce.

Man Utd have made a signing. Tom Heaton. A backup goalie.

Southampton have made 2 signings - a cheap french full back and Theo Walcott on a free who they already had on loan.

West Ham have made 3 signings - all kids

Arsenal have made 1 signing - a back up left back who'll interchange with Tierney

Most of the significant business of the summer has not taken place yet - for any club.
If we haven't strengthened come the end of the window, that's a massive problem.
but not having strengthened in mid-July after a major tournament is not yet a problem.

This happens every chuffing year btw. It's so boring.

I don't actually know why I bother tbh. People just love to moan and feel lost without it.

Just knock yourself out - I give up
excellent post. Unfortunately, the cry-arses do not do reason

Pickford will be first choice keeper, we want decent experienced cover.
Any keeper with international and ambition to play regular football is not going to join us.

Certainly not with the form Pickford is showing currently.
Nope. Absolutely no point signing Begovic. Experience doesn't matter if he's woeful.

If we don't want top level cover for Pickford then we should make Virginia No.2. At least then if he makes mistakes, he may learn from them because he is young. I will never understand this train of thought that it is better to have an experienced player consistently make mistakes when you know they are never going to improve, than a young player who might. It seems nonsensical to me and always has.

It's been reported we're close to Dumfries, Okoronkwo and Kluiters. We've had a bid rejected for Koulibaly, we're seemingly looking to sign Begovic and ASM and it seems like we're about to move Bernard on.

Our pre-season only started about a week ago and we've had a manager search for much of June and two major tournaments.

I don't quite understand the "get a move on Brands" shouts. He seems quite busy.
Season starts in 4 weeks.

Well that’s the crux of the issue isn’t it. We have appointed a DOF as a token gesture, he doesn’t actually do anything.
I think the biggest stuff he's done is the stuff he won't get the headlines for - gradually reducing the average age of the u23 squad and being more proactive with getting young players loaned out.

His first team player recruitment has been massively affected by the club constantly changing the manager from under his feet, with each new one coming in and wanting to play a different system and sign their own players.

It's very hard to truly tell if he's done a good job of being Director of Football when he's not being allowed to...you know...direct the football.

But if you venture into the Marcel Brands thread you'd think the man is singlehandedly responsible for us not winning a trophy since 1995

He isn't woeful, he is perfectly sound as back up.
