If you have serious ambitions to compete for CL place, you cant look at your bench and see Townsend as a viable option to come on and influence a game. Is there another club who we viably want to compete with who would see him as a legitimate option, no. That tells us all we need know.

A club of our stature, budget, resources should always have aspirations for competing for Europe. So yes i absolutely do, i think it should be the goal of the manager - "such as it is" and the squad definitely, im always dissapointed when we dont.

We need to rebuild our flanks in my opinion, to be confident of it, but we're still relatively early in this particular window, so lets see. Id be worried "going with what we've got".

Regardless if WHU and Leicester can compete for a CL spot, i see very little reason why we cant.
