I suppose going out with a bang and a perma so I can’t return is the best option. Probably just mean I spend more time on here thoughI highly recommend goading Geordies until 4am if you want to come off twitter mate.

If he has no decent net spend how do we compare any expectations we might have from him with the expectations we had (which were dashed) of our big spending managers?
Spot on.Yes, this is my analysis too. People need to accept that a large swathe of the fanbase is effectively "Switzerland" when it comes to Benitez. They simply want a successful side. These neutrals are pretty silent and non-committal about him either way. These people will break one way or the other when it becomes clear what direction this train is traveling. If Benitez is not backed in the summer in any meaningful way, moderate reasonable people will begin to lower their expectations, such as they already are. You don't have to like a manager to know that he is being blackguarded. It kept David Moyes in a job for a decade.
That said, I still think he'll be backed. If he is, that will be the most perilous time for him. Given Marcel Brands's record, I could see Benitez trying to force Brands out of any key decisions for fear of any more Iwobi-type signings. There's big scope for major friction this summer.
Moneyball Eberton lolz

I never said we would. Just saying the quad only need a couple of positions filling to be as good that squad under Martinez. The squad is cratered. Running on fumes. Just as it was when Martinez came in. Martinez played a different way and rejuvenated the squad he inherited. Benitez's way is to not be expanisive, so we wont see that.
The quality needs to be there though, not just bringing in a couple or so players on the cheap.I never said we would. Just saying the quad only need a couple of positions filling to be as good that squad under Martinez.
I also think we need a different manager to Benitez but e were talking about the squad not the manager.
Add Danny Ings and there is your front three...Townsend would be a solid buy based on the fact it would stop him playing against us. Let’s get in Dwight McNeil and Callum Wilson whilst we’re at it along with every other game raiser who only turn up twice a season when they see the royal blue.
Where's @Alan Whittle when you need himjust been on the Palace website and they all speak very highly of him. They've had some good players Palace, so if they rate him that's encouraging for a free transfer
No mate, whateevr about Begovic who is a decent keeper, Townsend shouldn't even be given a comp ticket for one of our games.
If you have serious ambitions to compete for CL place, you cant look at your bench and see Townsend as a viable option to come on and influence a game. Is there another club who we viably want to compete with who would see him as a legitimate option, no. That tells us all we need know.
I think we will have money, maybe not fortunes but we will have some. It wouid make no sense for Rafael to take the job on sell to buy or Moshiri/usmanov getting a guy in, half the fan base don’t want, then not backing him.Don’t want Townsend at all but if he’s just a replacement on the bench for bernard then it makes sense, better player at less than half the wages and free. That said I’d only be fine with it if it means we’re using the money we have to bring in a starting RB, CB, CM, and a player to play across the front three.
Doing the above and moving players like Coleman, Gomes, sig, keane etc to the bench means we’ll have a better bench and better starting 11. Next season sell the bench players if we can’t this season and improve the first 11 and bench again as unfortunately we can’t just go out and buy a new squad.
