Not a chance.

There's a very high chance tbf

Richarlison unlikely to be here by that game or if he is, won't be up to speed
Let's face it, we don't know what's happening with James

The only question mark there is probably Dumfries but there's been positive talk re. that move.

It won't be far off.

I'm old enough to have seen them too. They have absolutely zero relevance to us signing Andros Townsend now.

The relevance is, in this context anyway, that I know what an awful player looks like and I don't think Andros Townsend is that. But maybe he is, and he leaves after 1 year.

There is much much bigger problems in this squad than what we do with him for the next 12 months though IMO. Cenk Tosun for 1.

Pickford
Dumfries - Keane - Mina - Digne
Allan - Doucs
Gray --- Iceberg --- Townsend
DCL
Thats ya first 11 for Southampton, stand on me.

I have a feeling Kean will be here, and will start, maybe ahead of Sigurdsson. Either way, looks a more balance team, with more mobility than last season.

If Kean goes, I'd imagine we may sign Koulibaly and another "big name".

Gray for 1.5mill is a good deal. He has talent.

It has the potential to be a deal akin to Peinaar/Arteta when they came here at a similar age, having shown promise as younger players but really fallen by the wayside a bit.

It's nice to potentially be the club that revitalises their career, as opposed to the one who ruins it though.

I'd also say, Gray does a lot of what we struggled with as a team. He is very very good at carrying the ball, quick, direct etc. His end product, particularly his finishing is poor and he is a liability defensively, but he will get us up the pitch.

Kean has been linked with Juve in the past. I know we don’t want to loan him to PSG, but how about loaning him to Juventus in exchange for us loaning one of their players? I’d take Ramsey or Rabiot on loan.

No hang on. Pienaar had been considered one of the best youth prospects in Europe at Ajax one season before. Arteta had been great at Rangers and PSG (pre big money) and had one disasterous season at Sociedad when trying to replace Alonso. It's nothing like Gray, who was fine at Birmingham then awful at Leicester.

Chico mentioned 3 players...

He threw the name Gray out there...

Im hoping that twitter has copied it off here.

Townsend i could understand, 2 year deal as backup makes sense to me.

Gray on the other hand id be appalled with...hes an utter donkey.

Imagine if we approach Leverkusen and instead of asking for Tapsoba, Diaby, Bailey or Wirtz we want Gray.

That would be a real kick in the teeth.

I mean if we were just in for one of them I'd rather it be Gray.

£1.5m, 25, direct runner, real pace.

If it's Bernard, King and Walcott out and Gray and Townsend in, I can just about live with it.

Not entirely sold on Townsend but he's a better right flank option than Iwobi.

Wouldn't say he was awful. Definitely didn't live up to the billing and his confidence got knocked.

I'd rather have him playing wide than Iwobi, though.

Peinaar had been pretty woeful at Dortmund though hadn't he? Although I did read somewhere that Klopp wanted to keep him.

I mean the scale may be different, but the principle that players might have talent is the point really.

Gray seems to have done ok at Leverkusen. I think he will be better than Iwobi who occupied the role last season.

Either way, I braced for this when we got Benitez. This was obviously what was going to follow. At least we haven't spunked a load of money on it like with certain previous managers.

There were a few stories before Brands signing his contract about him getting his wish.

Maybe this was it, cheap value signings that while wont get pulses racing COULD COULD prove useful and if they arent useful, we aint in the bin for 30million with an overpriced piece of tosh like Iwobi.

Coupled with some astute yoot signings.

Suppose that'd stand up but Brands has spent big money on wages on tosh like Iwobi and Delph and (mainly due to the injury tbf) Gomes, also Bernard etc.

Not saying he had final say on those deals but they've happened under his watch.

Tbh mate, we're just skint. Or, we've got money, but can't spend it, so need players shifted and until we do, this is what we have.

These will, in an ideal world, replace squad players like Bernard, Walcott, King etc. Hopefully we can punt Iwobi for half-decent money (£15m). Any big spend will depend on Kean, think it was always going to.
