You must be sailing close to the wind. As before Grealish was sold you have spent a fortune in the last 3 years. With not much coming back

There's no excuse to have to wait another 12 months. The squad has needed a overhaul for 3 or 4 years. No one has the appetite to do anything and make any difficult decisions. The club is an embarrassment to everyone these days.

I've never been so dreading the start of a season. I wish it could just be over before its begun.

Nothing will change till we sell DCL & Richarlison. Let’s hope we don’t waste the 150mil

Brands and Ancelotti have snookered us over the past two years of poor recruitment adding more dross to the list of dross Walsh left us with.

Moshiri needs to boot Kenwright ASAP and bring in a proper Chairman/CEO who would see through Brands instantly.

Thats essentially true - we'll cut costs this summer to get us just below the FFP limit then sell either Richarlison or DCL next summer for £75-85 million in order to clean the slate and throw a wad around.

I would say we are very close to the wind. Purslow is a clever guy and was on the committee that created the FFP rules so I expect he is managing it to ensure Villa do not get caught with a points deduction. We could very well be planning on breaching FFP but accepting the penalty. I would be happy enough to accept a 2 year European football ban :)

I don’t know the exact rules. And it’s not ffp you need to worry about, unless you’re in Europe it’s the premier leagues own rules.

but maybe you stated spending 2 summers ago so you have another year to gamble. I also read you sold your ground for 60mil not sure how true that is. But ultimately it doesn’t matter how clever you’re. If you’re spending 100mil every summer, your wage bill will be going up and if you’re not bringing much back in. And only finishing 11th. It will catch up with you.

Yep, we sold our ground to ourselves, I think it was 56m. And you are absolutely correct, we can't spend 100m every summer unless we have players sales boosting revenue. But, we had a threadbare squad full of deadwood and expiring contracts. We have now mostly removed all the deadwood and have built a large squad. So we are only now in a position to start selling players and trying to buy improvements. So next summer will be key for Villa as we will need to sell some players at a profit or at least what we paid for them to be able to continue spending. We are very lucky in that we have no debt hence no interest payments. All of the money the owners put into the club is as equity and it doesn't appear as debt and we never have to pay it back. That gives us a little extra wiggle room. The 100m from Grealish will help hugely as that will all be in this season's accounts. Also, player purchases this year of 100m will only be about 25m cost in this year's accounts but unfortunately, 25m in each of the next 3 years accounts too.
