Clearly we wouldnt bring in a CB without selling one (or two) first. Again, that would free up some money if we managed to sell one or two of them.

To be pragmatic, you sell a CB or two and promote Branthwaite -- needing only one incoming player to partner Godfrey.

On the topic of pragmatism, we have Richarlison, James, Gordon and Iwobi as wide players...weve now added Gray and Townsend.

Its not pragmatic to have 6 wide players in the squad, nor is it logical to bring two squad players in for £100k wages if were concerned about FFP. Losing say, James and Gordon would make us far weaker.

If our main concern is FFP, and not actual, real money then Barca did the same thing with Arthur and Pjanic with Juventus. A swap deal with largely inflated fees of (from memory) £75mil and £55mil.

With Richalison, we probably have a value of £80-100mil for him and so a direct swap for someone with no money changing hands could be difficult -- which is why we would need to include multiple players in return.

The concern i would have is that (like Mina this summer) in a years time he will be down to 2 years on his deal and his value will decrease -- if he doesnt want to extend. If no one is able to pay the fee we want then we would need to search for imaginative ways to do business.

Unless someone has a better idea of how we get around FFP while also bringing in 3 quality players...

I think James will go and Gordon on loan so that's four wide players Iwobi is barely a wide player anyway, I presume both he and Gray will also play in the ten at times. But agree we aren't recruiting well even with our lack of budget

I promise you this, come Christmas time and we are messing about mid table possibly even lower, what are the fans going to do? They will put pressure on the team the manager and the board, what happens then we make a knee jerk reaction and Bingo we start again.
We want a new manager and he will want his team, mean while Leicester challenge for top 4 definitely top 6 and possibly make further additions to their squad.
So yes we are years behind them

If James does go along with Gordon...whose playing on the right.

If Benitez sees Iwobi/Gray as central players when they dont score or assist then this is going to be a disaster.

Townsend sadly it seems to me.Agree the lack of creativity is very worrying.
 

The way I see our 23 man squad ATM, I thought I read that Brands said that was the right amount, hopefully Rafael doesnt see JRod as a wide player, he doesnt have the pace or work rate for that....

It is a top 10 squad I`d say... I`d love to see Dumfries come in at RB or Saint Maximin for one of the wings. We have been linked to Martial who played in the wide left position for Man Ure, cant see that one happening. Not sure who would suit us in the CM area, I think Gbamin could be huge for us this season.

JRod will give us that superstar quality, unfortunately he is the only one in the squad with "That Something Extra", we need more of them....

I do feel there is more transfers in and out, disppointed this hasnt already happened to allow time to gel but not really surprised. It would be good to see 3 or 4 1st choice players in the key areas with players like Delph, Iceland, Tosun, Iwobi and potentially Kenny, Mina or Keane and Gomes leaving. Thats a big ask and dont think that will happen, but lets wait and see. This is Everton after all.......... COYB`s
