Everton Summer transfers 2021

Echo journalists aren’t worth their water, no one asked Benitez after the game what the deal with summer business.

We’re being shunted by a cozy cartel.

Yeah I've not heard anything in the media about transfers yet. Although sometimes the written press don't publish their interviews post match until 10.30 on Sunday nights

This is not true. There is no way Townsend, Begovic and Gray are on £100K or less between them. Townsend alone was on £60K a week at CP and left on a Bosman, he didn't join Everton on less money. I would wager we are looking at £150K a week for those three, which is less than Bernard, Bolasie, Besic, Olsen and Walcott but not as much less as you stated and there are two fewer players.
Yep, Townsend was on 55k and was desperate to stay in the uk, we were his only Avenue, he will be on lower than at palace for obvious reasons.
Gray was on 50k at Leicester and has since fallen from grace, will defo be on much lower wage and again, happy to be in the prem after being unhappy in Germany

I wasn’t on about begovic, he was Bournemouth’s highest earner though, mad!

Totally agree with the difficulty of doing deals like these.

The players i highlighted, two right backs (one wont be a starter for them), a centre back (linked with us before) and a centre midfielder (who had refused to sign a contract) seem to be players we need and we need to use some imagination in our dealings -- as do Barca.

….players you say we need but I doubt the club will agree.

Coleman has just signed a new deal, there’s no chance we’ll be bringing in two RBs. We’re stacked with CBs, doubt we’ll be looking at another unless we can offload.

its fine being imaginative, but we also have to be pragmatic.

What are those reasons? Either he is a good player, as you consistently assert, in which case he would have been in a strong position to maintain or increase his wage as there would have been multiple suitors for his mercurial talents. Or, there were no other takers, leaving us in the stronger negotiating position regarding his wage but would suggest that no other PL team wanted him because he is not, in fact, a good player.

Which is it, a poor low wage player or an in demand high wage player?

I’ve never said he was a good player, I said he was cheaper and better than theo as he was not even available

it’s simple we’ve slashed the wage bill with better options hopefully off the bench

Bernard, Bolasie and Walcott were near or above 100k each. Those three alone, bare minimum, were costing us 250k a week.
We weren’t paying Walcott last season though, at least not fully so they had already part of his wage off the books, King is gone so we can add what he was on so probably same difference. You might have to match what Olsen was on against Begovic too.

I think we are entering a new world for football finances. There will always be exceptional talents who get exceptional deals, but the revenue is reducing.

Look at Barca, Inter, Real, half the French league etc. Wages will fall.

He's not better than Walcott, and Walcott was mince, because at least Walcott could still run. We haven't signed any other RWs yet (despite your assurances) so one of Townsend or Iwobi will start on the right against Southampton. He won't be a bench player for the start of the season, he'll be a first 11 player. It's increasingly looking like that will be the case for the season.

You love a hypothetical, so here's one for you. If JJK, Coleman, Iwobi and Townsend are our right side options for this season, where do you think we will finish and will you be happy with our transfer business?

Apparently Spurs have bid 60mil for the other inter Milan striker. Empty stadium for 18months, No champions league for 2yrs borrowed 200mil in the middle of covid. Yet can spend 110mil in a week, while we haven’t got a pot to piss. Unless kane is definitely going
