We don't have pace in that position and that is the difference.

No, we don’t have pace and that needed to be addressed but we did have quality in James and to a to a lesser (more controversial) extent, Siggi.

I’m not really understanding why folk think replacing quality and no pace with pace and no quality will be a good idea.

We’ve seen pace with lack of quality in the final third from the likes of Aaron Lennon, Walcott - it leads to players getting into good positions and then making an arse of the final pass/ball, making the wrong decision.

Would snap Brighton’s hand off if we get anywhere near £20m for Holgate. IMO he’s our 4th best CB and that money can be reinvested in to positions we’re crying out for… most notably RB.

I don't think we'll be seeing much of Siggurdson or James though, Gordon will probably go out on loan again and Iwobi is useless.

He has sufficient quality to ensure we are not in a relegation scrap at the end of the season.

Id take £40mil for Holgate and Mina (due to Mina's contract) and bring in one starter.

Then punt Keane next summer if we cant bin him now.

They were talking 14M or so two years ago just before his last good run of form. I think between 15-20M would be about par.

The issue is that weve signed Gray when we already have:

Left: Richarlison, Iwobi, Gordon
Centre: Sigurdsson, James, Iwobi

Iwobi is not effective out wide and Gordon is being loaned. Also James will go, who knows if Sig will ever be back. So Gray for 1.5m doesn't bother me so much he is 25 has pace and potential can be weapon off the bench .It's Townsend that to me will be deadwood by next year he is bang average.... We need a Mcneil or another creative/foward/wing option to start because I see the list you mentioned being whittled down but we shall see.

Not true, it's based on selling White for £50 million and buying a replacement for £20 million, which may or may not be Holgate.

When playing together they're just to slow and don't offer enough. Allan is a shadow of the player he was just a season or two ago (it's got nothing to do with the injury) and Doucoure is probably the right sort of player we need but tbh IMO I'm not sure he himself is the right player for the role, his actual ability on the ball is just dreadful at times which for a pro footballer I always find a little odd. We do need an individual who is a bit more forward minded and who looks towards the final 1/3 of the pitch in terms of their passing rather than just sideways or backwards all the time.

Yes a deep lying playmaker/box to box type it was meant to be what Gomes was but I genuinely think he's done at EPL level he hasn't the mobility or the confidence to control games or win games. I think Doucoure could play as a ten but you have to ask him just to make continuous runs onto flick ons and drive forward he isn't going to pick people out.

My hope is, hes a good age range, and has the sort of style Potter might like. I dont think we get near 20m though. If we got 10m that would be a very handy return.
