Madrid have played it a lot as well. But for the better teams 442 is just an organised defence, with the two centre forwards either pressing the centre halves in more aggressive formations or the centre midfielders in more defensive.

Attacking wise there is often little difference between 4231 and 442... And putting numbers on formations when for most teams there is loads of movement when attacking anyway defeats the object to be honest

Not sure you can say anything was proved except in the right system he’s clearly a very effective footballer. My mate who supports West Ham loves him and is desperate they sign him.
