Rangers dont want to sell him & Gerrard certainly doesn't... some of the comments on here are unbelievable & not just relating to Paterson.
Sick of spunking £30 million on crap players.. sick of signing players that are past it.. when will Brands start unearthing some young gems.. he's too slow.. he's not good enough... not signing someone else's junk etc
Paterson is a young exciting player with potential to reach an extremely high level & its ridiculous some of the comments from people who have probably never seen him play.
Really struggling to understand what exactly some people excpect from the club in terms of incomings.
I have never seen him play, but everything I have read about him from those that know Scottish football points to him being a real talent.

If that is the case then I can understand Rangers not letting him leave cheaply, particularly when Chelsea and City spend fortunes on young players for their academies.

Where I am struggling is that I think we need someone readymade, rather than one for the development squad.

….the lad is almost 20, I think he’d be utilised immediately as cover for Coleman. I very much doubt he’d be part of the U23 squad. It’d be a great opportunity for him to break into the PL.

Fair point... he wouldn't be development squad he's beyond that but my one worry would be physically... hes 6ft & technically sound but still not physically fully developed yet.

Straight swap for Kenny and just give them Delph along with his greatest YouTube clips to bamboozle them into thinking he's a fantastic leader and all round good egg.

How many times do we have to point you to the fact he doesn't start for Rangers because their captain and best player is also a right-back?

It's Nkounkou for us.
Nkounkou never plays and will get frustrated at the lack of opportunities.
He didn’t get a chance when Digne was injured. Godfrey played in his place. We will be looking for a new LB understudy next season.

I have no problem signing up and coming players. My fear is that we will think the position is solved, but Holgate will play when Coleman is injured because he isn’t PL ready.

He is the sort of player I thought Brands was brought in to find, so it feels like actual succession planning, just two years too late.

You are probably right, but if he isn’t playing in Scotland, he won’t be PL ready. He will be miles off the pace.

….sorry, I don’t really get that. Yes, it’s a massive step up but if this lad is the real deal he’ll be up to it. Coleman is still clearly in the driving seat, Benitez has gone out of his way to say he remains team captain so there is a bit of wiggle room here for the lad to settle.

I actually think Coleman’s biggest problem is his fitness & it’s almost inevitable he’ll be out for games with niggles. The club can plug the gap with Holgate/Godfrey/Kenny but it’s an ideal opportunity for a promising youngster to make the position is own. I don’t get the thinking that he’s not ready, it’s only a matter of whether he’s good enough.

Patterson came into an Old Firm game with no experience and was an outstanding MoM.
