That is indeed the problem - signing players from farmer leagues, which is most of continental Europe these days. More chance of signing an Afonso Alves than a Robert Lewandowski.

With Maupay, you know what you're getting. With Kean, we didn't - we know now though sadly.

But the saddening thing with the Maupay link isn't that he's crap exactly; it's that he's clearly limited and it's an indication of the state of the club at present. I maintain no other club in the top ten would be entertaining that amount of money for him.
How??

Squad needs a load of improvements by the time the window closes in less than a week.

We're really awful at signing second strikers, Kone, Niasse, Sandro, Hernandes, Tosun, King - shudders at the wages there.

Its like signing a third keeper to us.

Moise Kean though, i like him, but we cant get a tune out of him and such likely selling him.

We might nearly have to go back to Luis Saha to pick a good one. Always liked Brian McBride too.

Naismith was a good second striker to be fair. But I assume you mean like a back up #9, rather than a literal "second striker" who would play off someone.

Kean's attitude seemed better at Huddersfeild and then just sees the red mist. Was a superb goal for his wrongly disallwoed one.

Fair shout mate, would have no beef with Naismith, Moyes knew what he was doing. I think its the toughest gig in football, to find a back up striker, even the top CL clubs struggle with it.

Id be a big Moise fan mate, hes at the wrong club though. He wont thrive here the way we play, its not his game.

You forgot Stracqualursi.

Because the defensive standards of European leagues are either dramatically worse than the Premier League, or much, much slower and less physical.

So big money moves are always a punt. For example, you have Andre Silva and Gerard Moreno plundering goals on the continent, but they could easily come to England and be proper Sergey Rebrov.

I didn’t say big money moves at all though; it’s why I was never one for yarmalenko when we were linked with him. I’m talking low risk purchases on emerging talent

Maupay would be a great signing for the right Price but no chance of us getting him for the right price. He’s good and we won’t get much better but we can probably get the same quality for cheaper if brands can be bothered looking instead of only buying prem players.

Tim Cahill would ‘only’ bring in about 8-10 goals a season. Still, I don’t see us buying this Maupay. We don’t have the money to spend on someone like him, and I doubt Brighton are likely to sell.

We need to improve our defence more than anything imo. It’s full of donkeys.
