I see reports about fans not wanting Maupay signed. When will the penny drop that RB knows what he's doing?

I can't speak for everyone but for me it'll probably be around this time next year when we're in the Championship and doing battle with Tranmere to convince Lee Trundle to come out of retirement for £40k a week to spearhead our push back to the PL.

Very true but at the same time I keep coming back to the facht with these players we’ve hardly set the league on fire.
Their is of course the arguement we should retain these sort of players and add to them, but the reality is we can’t afford to do that yet.
Much as I’d miss them, esp Richarlison, who I think the best is yet to come from, perhaps we do need to go back to drawing board and build squad that can perform to level that puts us higher up the table, which in turn generates more cash, which in turn leads to the sort of players we all crave.
Too many teams who on paper have worse squads are out performing this mishmash of a squad we currently have.

In principle a club like Everton should be selling high and reinvesting in young players who can progress - a more balanced squad with young, hungry players is what we’d all want I imagine.

The problem is twofold here. It’s very late in the window and our recruitment has been extremely hit and miss to say the least.

I don’t get this. Richy is under contacted for three more years. It’s such late in the window there won’t be any decent replacements with fair fees. If that French club lose their player to Real that is is their problem. Remember they want a 50p loan for Kean there is no need to do them favour.

I'm convinced we'll have done a now infamous "gentlemans agreement", and said he can go the Olympics if he gives us another year, and then you go to PSG. We did something similar with Gueye and he gave us a cracking 6-months.

Then we can accordingly plan. Well, unless PSG really do go stupid and offer €100m for him.

If we don't replace him it would be a mistake, same as it was last year. If we lose both and bring in one player (who lets face it won't be as good as Richy) it would be a dreadful mistake. If we lose both and don't bring in anybody, which may happen with just 3 days of the window left, then it would be a disaster. If James goes too?

The biggest issue about selling Rich now is that instead of doing a Villa and getting the replacements in beforehand, we’ll be getting ripped off by the likes of Burnley and Brighton, if reports are to be believed.

There’s still time to get deals lined up for players like Diaby, Baku etc but I’d say it’s far more likely we chuck £25m for Maupay and £35m for McNeil.

What if they don’t offer the amount this club have asked for? Just give them the player? No wonder you love Fat Sam. Very small time thinking. The player is under contracted for three more years this club hold the cards.

I think the noises out of France are quote ominous mate. It sounds like a deal is much further along than it might seem. Gut feeling and all that mind

My hope is they've watched Villa do their business, and whether it was known in football circled of not about Grealish leaving, we've agreed to sell him next summer, once we've done all our business, so we don't get our kecks pulled down.

Rather than £60m on Maupay and McNeil, we could actually have 12 months agreeing deals and not signing fodder like this.
