Everton Summer transfers 2021

I read the Brands story as somewhat differently... I think it was a bait and switch by Moshiri. He got Brands here with the chance to be in total control as Kenwright became ill and he was to work with Silva who is a fairly low key inexperienced manager (comparatively) - his biggest rival was Unsy! Then came Carlo Ancelotti and the FSW who Moshiri could not resist - strong personalities who are large and in charge. Two wholesale (Dunc excepted) replacements of the backroom staff and we went from spending 30-50M on deadline day to Salomon Rondon on a free, maybe... I think Brands likely would have walked by now but the Board position was a sweetner to make him feel valued and get him to stay. Reality may be he is as screwed as the rest of us.

Quite possibly - there are some moves we have made which I think he needs to shoulder some responsibility for. Kean would be a great example - a young striker who needs minutes, but with an emerging striker ahead of him - it was never going to work. The striker we needed was a more experienced head who could provide cover for DCL and not kick up too much of a fuss when on the bench - Rondon, funnily enough, would have been a good example.

The thing I don't agree with, and never will, is the notion that some signings are "Brands" signings and others are "Silva/Ancelotti/Benitez" signings. Brands signs off on deals regardless of whether they are suggested by the manager or by Steinsson and the recruitment dept. For me Brands gets credit when things work out, regardless of who suggests the player but he has to accept the responsibility when it doesn't because he is able to say no.

They know what they're doing with those tweets.

Reference to 'Unnamed club' have gone up and up. They know it then ends up all over and drives clicks.

I do rate the Athletic and their info is well-sourced and spot on, but they have tended to become much more click-baity as the window has worn on.

Is what it is, I suppose.

Also, their constant use of not naming sources in the majority of their stories is boring now. I understand why they do it, because mostly its agents on behalf of players or club directors etc, but it does just take away from some good stories tbh.

How do we get out of this ffp mess or are we doomed to free transfer and loans for eternity ?
I’m not entirely clear on the details, but it’s judged over a period of time. Eventually, old losses fall off what they are interested in looking at (something like 3 years I seem to recall), so we just need to weather the storm for a while and we’ll be able to waste cash again.

Perhaps subscriber revenue isn’t so rosy for The Athletic in the UK? I wondered if the ditching of Gwlad Tidings might have been a cost-cutting thing. Click bait is also usually a bad sign about confidence in the value of your offering.

When I Look back at all the names mentioned on this thread the mind boggles. Here we are with the only likely one being Rondon who IMO will be another addition to the pile of deadwood. Cannot see any other showing up like Patterson, Maitland-niles, Diaz. This is going to be a window and deadline day to forget.
