Everton Summer transfers 2021

Do we? Benitez seems to want to play something like a 4231/442 depending on personnel and who we are playing

In either case that's 2 centre mids we are using - we currently have 6 senior ones on the books plus the highly rated Onyango coming back from injury shortly. I think we can probably afford to lose one (I was just hoping it would be Delph).
I think we will be foolish to rely on either Delph or Gbamin to provide reliable midfield cover given their own injury problems over the last 2 years. Allan himself has proven himself to be very injury prone. If Gomes goes that leaves us with just Davies as reliable cover for the midfield slots.

As regards the "front 4" or wide midfield positions, we currently have DCL, Richy, Iwobi, Gray and Townsend. That's 5 players to cover 4 positions. Gomes is the only one of our midfield players who could arguably play the "10" in the 4231. That's why James, if he stays, has to be part of the squad, and why he needs to be replaced if he goes.

At the back, we have zero cover for our full backs (I don't rate Kenny as suitable cover) once Nkounkou goes out on loan, which puts immense pressure on our CBs to cover all 4 defensive positions.

Our squad really is as thin as we can allow it to get.

By the way, a much as I like Onyango, our manager has done nothing so far to show he has any confidence in playing young players. In fact, the decision to send Nkounkou out on loan and the rumours that Gordon will also be sent out today, would suggest strongly that he doesn't.

You can't talk about being unhappy about transfers and talk about a plan but ignore that we have several managers in the last few years....Koeman brought to the club on the promise of money and buying players he wanted, same with Silva, same with Carlo, the majority of the players we have brought in have been at the behest of the manager, not the DOF. He keeps having to pick up the pieces from our Owners and I am not talking Kenwright here - keep wanting to interfere.

My frustration is that I agree with you I am not happy and in many ways you are right, but that's football, our Russian owner wants to play real-life football manager and the players I have picked out have been brands trying to rebalance the ship.

I am not happy with cheap signings, I want to be the new Chelsea, are owner is over 6 billion pounds richer than Roman - but we live in hope
I’m not though I’m just saying I’m not happy with what I’m seeing from the club. The changing of managers and lack of direction is all included in that like I already said but for some reason you’re ignoring that and keep just making the same point despite us being in agreement. I think the club is being run badly and our recent windows are an extension of that and you agree but insist on trying to argue about it but I’m not entirely sure why.

It suggests they either aren’t good enough, or aren’t ready for the PL.

With Gordon I am sure it is the latter, probably the same for Onyango.

Yep, 1 striker and Coleman and Kenny at right back would be awful squad management. Could get even worse if Nkounkou leaves on loan. We'll be playing 4 centre halves across the back again!
Just literally done this post about our squad strength
