Coleman is going to be 33 is just over a month and is very clearly past his best. Where is the succession planning? Where is the promising player who is going to challenge him and make that position their own? Because it sure as hell isn't Kenny

…I don’t disagree and the links to AM-N & Patterson suggest similar thinking but Coleman could be one of the first names on Benitez’s team sheet (he was quick to report he’d be captain for this season). The lack of urgency, perhaps Benitez would prefer to utilise Holgate and Godfrey as back-up.

I’m in no doubt Benitez is calling the shots here even if Brands is identifying players.

Still a few hours to go, they might have another RB on the list that Benitez is willing to sanction.

He'll be absolutely fuming if they don't pull 3 players in for him. He seemed fairly confident they would.

They need to because the squad was absolutely threadbare against Huddersfield and Brighton
I think Joyce tweeted about Diaz on Friday. And according to toffee TV, who knows how much they know. But we had agreed the AMN deal on Saturday. And looks like Arsenal pulled the plug yesterday. So maybe it looked like we were in a good position for 3, if you include Rondon

Becoming increasingly clear that Benitez got the job because he wasn't bothered about a transfer budget and the ambition of the club. If that's not correct and he is a man of honour you'd expect him to walk.
He won't because of the wedge and convenience.
The lack of support by the club is probably a godsend for him because no fan is likely to blame him now when / if it goes tits up.

I'm pretty sure the last time we spent money (as in a transfer fee) on a right back it was 60k on Seamus Coleman 12 years ago. And he got that horrific injury about 4 and a half years ago at this point. It's been so negligent from multiple DOFs and managers to not invest properly in a replacement/ someone to adequately challenge. No wonder we've stood still (at best) these last few years.

This is the problem of leaving deals until right at the end of the window. If something goes wrong (selling club pulling the plug etc etc) you're left high and dry. Clearly we've had to play it this way this time around. Disappointing.
