bernards fee barely covered his monthly wages.

Tbf Zat Brands doesn't come out of it well either (but we knew that)I believe weve spent about £250mil net in 6 summer windows. Thats about £41.6mil a year on average.
There is no way you can catch the top 4 spending that kind of money -- unless you sign players whose values double after a couple of years.
Im surpised we didnt go for someone like Singo from Torino near the end of the window.
My guess is that they will 'monitor' Patterson at Rangers and see if hes worth a higher offer and also check with Norwich if they will take a lower fee in Jan.
There may also be a wildcard of course but id say it will be in the media about those two in Jan.
I think Richarlison next summer and DCL the year after once Ronaldo and Cavani drop out of United.
Only good things there are that Richarlison may be a good profile for a top side like PSG so we may squeeze £100mil if he has an amazing season.
DCL on penalties and if he can slot 20 league goals for the next 2 seasons and get more England caps then he could be another £100mil+ windfall.
With the new stadium on the horizon and no doubt a lot of investment into the team as we move into it there is a chance DCL may stay of course.
£400k this summer brought in (as you say) and for new players, all but Gray's wages off the books in 2 seasons time...plus our loan fees from Kean, Nkounkou and one or two kids.
Next summer another £450-500k off the books as well.
I expect that next summer involves a very low (if any) net spend again with summer 2023 being a large investment to have players in the year before
Apart from the things you mentioned above and in other posts, its a bit of a weird one to be praising a manager for signing 2 of his former players who were either in China or who had been released.
On top of that the calibre of players doesnt particularly point to a masterstroke akin to signing a French player from Ligue 2 who has come in and lit up the team.
I quite liked having both Townsend and Begovic for a season (not sure how Townsend got 2), Lonergan is a non-entity really and Gray looks like hes having a similar start to at Leverkusen (lets hope he keeps up this form!).
As for the right back mistakes, it seems weird that AMN isnt a Benitez player...Patterson we bid for of course and Dumfries he says Brands was fixated on.
It didnt mention which or who Benitez wanted at right back.
All it does is suck up to Benitez and tell the fans that he didnt want AMN who is rapid, lots of experience, young, can cross/pass and is a good man marker.
If Joyce had put an alternative name forward that Benitez wanted that Brands didnt get then there would have been a reason to write something.
Neither Benitez nor Joyce come out of this well and it looks like the knives are out for Brands.
Funnily enough, next summer if we moved on Pickford, DCL, Keane, Tosun, Gibson and Sigurdsson then the -£60mil would probably be breakeven.
To be fair to Brands we may be about £75mil in the positive on his signings if we moved them all on next summer.
@BlueToff who do you think gets more goals/assists this season?*
James or Gray ?
*could also be averaged out to account for games which James misses.
Agree worth a look at and gives us more options. Plus the deals made this window keeping townsend rondon ect means that we still have cover and hopefully go back in for diaz ectGomes -- Portugal
Tosun (injury permitting) --Turkey.
Keane -- Russia/Siberia
I think Diaz was £20mil+ James then £25mil + James and finally €30mil+James.
If the money was truly there then we should have switched targets to players that were attainable. For example, Emerson who has gone to Spurs, Moriba whose ended up at Leipzig etc etc...theres a few.
Different positions, but players that would have improved us.
There are a few quality players out of contract next summer:
Insigne, Brozovic, Kamara, Zakaria etc
Contracts expiring
This overview shows all players whose contracts expire in the upcoming summer, sorted by their current market value.www.transfermarkt.com
With our outgoing players next year being on big wages (Tosun, Delph, Sigurdsson, James, Kenny, Begovic, Lonergan) we should be able to clear off £450-500k there.
If in January we were able to sign a precontract agreement for Kamara (Marseille) for example then it puts a young £30-40mil level player on our books while using the wages saved.
Thats the sensible approach, if Brands wants to work in January...
think jan will be the same unless injuries force us to make deals. Just think arrons will have agreed that he will be able to leave if they go down againI believe weve spent about £250mil net in 6 summer windows. Thats about £41.6mil a year on average.

Great point. Burnley will be a good test. Team that likes to sit and nick a goal from wide or set piece. Won’t have a lot of room to get in behind. Do we sit deep and invite them on us? With the hope off hitting them on the counter. Would that be acceptable by our fans at home though?. Next few games will be interesting. Especially now teams will know what we want to do.Erm, if I knew James was going to play even 2/3 games (as in feature in them), I'd say it'd be close. But as it stands, Gray, if our main intention is to play in the same way as how we have in the opening two games.
But the season is very long and it isn't FIFA. You need more than one way of playing. Some of our fans, and frankly our managers, haven't got their heads around that. Let's hope Benitez does.

Koeman side.
Absolute scenes if that happensWe go again next summer with a restocked warchest when Rafael gets us CL on his 1.7m budget
