Everton Summer transfers 2021

Aren't several of these factors not the result of what happens when your playing trading is terrible though? Our player trading is bad, so we finish tenth and lose out on premier league bonuses, meaning we miss out on European revenue, meaning we miss out on sponsorships due to the extra exposure and so on...

Our player trading is horrific and our turnover to wages ratio is staggeringly high. COVID aside (a problem every club has had to deal with), they are the root causes of our issues as far as I can tell and the majority of the blame for our predicament should be placed on those responsible for it.
We also have one of the most popular, and most followed players on the planet in Rodriguez.
You can’t probably can’t buy Everton in merchandise in 90% of the countries he’s popular in.
Even when we are handed an opportunity we can’t capitalise on it.

Which players would we be shifting now?

Gomes -- Portugal
Tosun (injury permitting) --Turkey.
Keane -- Russia/Siberia

Richarlison was never leaving and we were still in for Diaz mate

So it would probably have been done against the future sale of Richarlison or Dom, and getting James off the books.

I think Diaz was £20mil+ James then £25mil + James and finally €30mil+James.

If the money was truly there then we should have switched targets to players that were attainable. For example, Emerson who has gone to Spurs, Moriba whose ended up at Leipzig etc etc...theres a few.

Different positions, but players that would have improved us.

I’d imagine we would have paid the asking price for Diaz if PSG had moved for Richy. Does seem we had some (but not loads of) money available for the right player but nothing materialised.

Could be a bit of a merry go round next summer although Richarlison will have to have a good season to get his big move to a CL team.

There are a few quality players out of contract next summer:

Insigne, Brozovic, Kamara, Zakaria etc

With our outgoing players next year being on big wages (Tosun, Delph, Sigurdsson, James, Kenny, Begovic, Lonergan) we should be able to clear off £450-500k there.

If in January we were able to sign a precontract agreement for Kamara (Marseille) for example then it puts a young £30-40mil level player on our books while using the wages saved.

Thats the sensible approach, if Brands wants to work in January...

When you factor the three different managers and the last two mainly picking there own players and the amount that have left
My conservative math is you can get about 180m by selling the Brands signings. That still leaves us down about 70m which is mostly due to Carlo wanting rapidly depreciating assets like Doucoure and Allan (please don't take that as a shot on them as players) who we're going to take a loss on. Really the worst one otherwise is Gomes.

The way I see it is that the signings made are in large part of similar tier than the ones the past three windows. The difference of course is that they came at such tiny expenses. That the board and Rafael did not invest huge sums is a silver lining. That said that is grading on a curve of priors and is credible simply from past failures. Removed of context these signings aren't really anything that separates us from basically any team in the top division.

The larger concern is the fact that regardless of the benefits of frugality, and what that might provide in terms of signings in the future, these look all like Rafael picks. He has a lot better indicators of utilizing limited resources than probably are last three managers, but the problems the club are in are in large part from repeating a similar model of appeasing managers.

Brands is full of red flags but a DoF should be empowered in a sustainable and competent club. Nothing this window suggests that to be the case. We likely will have similar finishes table wise on smaller wages and investments in the next two years. And balancing the wage bill and budget is likely necessary, but then where are we. Especially when the likes of the rest of the league are getting wiser in investing for upside and sell ons. Brighton, Norwich, Leeds, Brentford are all full or players rationally judged on the fees they will collect in three years time. Those clubs are being built sustainably regardless of where they are in the table. Because so, in due time they might begin to be able to close the gap.

Don’t dismiss it out of hand, he summarises bluntly and very clearly where the problems lie…
