ForeverHarddrive said we need to add quality players and you said it wont work.

A truly baffling statement.
What I mean is we added quality players last summer and we're still 8th. We've got to have more to the plan than "hey let's sign good players."

And we've also gotta stop the thinking we're 3 players from competing thing too.

But we are 3 players away.

If we signed Bruno, Youri and Cancelo are you saying we couldn't compete?

So based on us being 2 points away from 4th, if we win our game in hand and adding 3 players of real quality, you still say we couldn't compete?

lol lol lol
This is a silly argument to have. Bruno is one of the 3 or 4 best attacking midfielders in the world. We aren't signing that player. And if we did they'd either be James who is here because he can't stay healthy or someone who is 21-24 who develops into that player in a couple of seasons.

You know I didnt mean those players.

I meant players that made the same impact.

So adding quality players wont work, but adding players who might be quality in 2 or 3 seasons would?

Despite the fact that buying garbo like Lookman and Kean doesn't work either.

Buendia had the look of a Brighton player last season, flattering to deceive.

Having said that, I'm a big fan of Trossard, a Brighton player.

We are not going to buy 3 top class players. It isn't so much that it wouldn't work as we can't expect it to happen.

Everyone thought we pulled it off last summer and we've got injured, more injured and not actually very good instead.

Only in your world.

Most of us feel as tho Doucs, Allan and James improved us.

I mean we finished 12th last season, currently, we are, 2 points off 4th.

But sure, buying good players is pointless.

Youri was a big flop in Monaco and that was why Leicester could loan him. In Leicester he came to a club that had a clear philosophy and knew how to use his strengths. Cancelo is a good right back, but it is first and foremost as an inverted left back / or midfielder he has been extremely good. He had not been given that role with us.

My point is that having a fairly clear system will make the players better, but it will also be much easier to get the right players. We can not only buy players because on paper they are qualitatively better than what we have, but we must buy players who make the system better.

There is no point, e.g. to buy Isco, who is better qualitatively than all Everton players, if we do not have a plan for how he will be integrated into the system, and what role he will have. We are also not in a position to bring in Haaland, Mbappe, and the very best players, and usually have to buy players at the levels below.

All the biggest clubs have a clear and distinct philosophy, and can also buy the world's best players. It is almost impossible to compete against them. Without an oil sheik or two, our best opportunity is to be innovative and be one step ahead of our competitors when it comes to system, tactics, training theory, data analysis, physiology, developing our own players and mapping the right players who can strengthen us.

The Hollywood strategy can possibly get us top 6, but it also comes with great risk.
