Everton Summer transfers 2021

What happens if he flops or gets a bad injury?

They would be better off selling this summer if they get a good offer and reinvesting the money.
I think he will be their main man in trying to avoid relegation. He will be central to their plans. I would be amazed if they allow him to leave unless there isn’t much time left on his contract.

I wouldn't take it personally. For context, fans of Burnley, Swansea, Sunderland, Besiktas etc have all come on here at various times and told us we have no right to be sniffy about their player who would undoubtedly be our best player by a mile if they came. And then they've all been crap. It's natural for us to be a bit wary.

Godfrey's actually a pretty good example of why it can be hard when players step up. For all the plaudits we give him (and I know people will come at me for this) he hasn't actually been that good. He's shown loads of promise, and I have no doubt that he's a good signing for the long term, but ultimately he hasn't really forced his way into the team in his preferred position, and most of his best performances have been in the 'excellent for a centre half playing left back' category, rather than plain old excellent. We're not there yet but we're aiming to be a top 4 contender in the pretty near future, it's a big step from the Championship to that.

Id say Godfrey has been our best centre back in most of the games hes played there...

He would have been our best creative player last season. Not saying that's a high bar, but I also don't think "never produced" is fair either.

There are obviously ways to be an effective player without scoring goals. Honestly if he's going to score more than 5 a season that's just a bonus on top of the other stuff he definitely gives the team.
The point was that he has not produced at anything like a £40m level and you would therefore be taking a massive gamble on him improving significantly on his end product at the top level. If he continued at that level for us he would be a £20m asset who we'd paid £40m for. I'm not saying he's a bad player, I'm saying that calling signing him for £40m 'low risk' is utterly ridiculous.

I'd be surprised if he went for 40m tbh, but I'd also take the risk. He's exactly the type of player we desperately need in the team whether he scores goals or not.

£70m combined for two players from the championship is outrageous and would mean that we'd probably break the transfer record for that division for a single player too.

The logic doesn't make sense for why they'd sell either, they'll not be thinking 'let's sell our best two players now before we get relegated'. As I mentioned earlier, if anyone could point me towards a case of a promoted team selling their two best players.

For £70m i'd be expecting better players than Aarons and Buendia.

Its a massive risk.

Not only for us to sign him but for Norwich to keep him for a season if they can get a decent offer.

If he gets a long term injury then their golden goose is....goosed lol

They should sell both him and Aarons and use the funds to sign more younger players and hope the group stays up together with the quality spread around 4 or 5 positions not only 2.

Then they can still sell them at the end of next season.

£40mil for a championship player is madness but its what the media is quoting hence why ive used that number.

£25mil for him tops...Aarons has the English benefit and u21 England caps +speed....hes probably worth the same amount but may go for £30mil if hes our top target.

Why? They aren't everything but they aren't nothing either.

We have been through this plenty of times.

They mean nothing, a totally made up stat that is dependent on the whims of the person creating said stat.

Variables are never took into account when it comes to football stats.

Who're we classing as a truly good player though? If we signed Buendia and Aarons, we would have a best XI made up of 45% relegated players (Godfrey, Aarons, Buendia, Doucoure and Pickford).
A good way to solve this would be to not sign the bad ones from that group. I don't want us to sign Aarons for the record.
