Insanity to sell Holgate.

I wonder who would be the best signing, Ramos or Koulibaly.

Koulibaly of course has the 'monster' effect and is a very good passer of the ball...at 29 probably has 3 more seasons at being one ot the best around. He could be a starter for us for 5 seasons really...still a somewhat hefty fee.

Ramos on the other hand would probably only be able to play 25 games a season (similar to James) but brings the leadership , quality and experience into the defence and possibly a change in mentality.

On a free transfer for 2 seasons it could be a better signing...shades of Richard Gough.

Cointoss for me really.
Why
He plays less at CB in a 4 than any of the other 3
if we sign a specialist RB he will be third choice RB
WE will easily get 20m for him from a PL club as his wages are manageable
Who will give us the money we would want for Mina-Keane and pay their wages

I think it will happen myself tbh, Ancelotti has always had an experienced leader type at the back in all of his previous teams and i don't see any reason why he won't do it here.
I mean Carlo has allegedly said (mail) he wants a new CB in the mould of VVD, I would spend the kean money on koulibaly.

he’s also said he’s reasonably happy with the midfield and we only need 2-3 players. Not expecting that midfield to look that different next season, still think Isco on a free looked attractive, reinvest some wages. But gbamin being back is a game changer, would love to see him boss it.

really don’t see us buying a striker, especially not for big money.

Theres one key point youre missing here...

...he plays for Torino who, after 3 top 10 finishes have dropped off a cliff in recent seasons.

If you check your stats i think you will see that he has been dropping very deep to receive the ball and will probably be top in the key passes metric within those stats and probably have 5 or 6 assists each season as well.

Hes naturally not going to replicate 20+ goals a season when hes now roaming deep to pick up the ball and impact the game because his team mates arent good enough.

I am guessing here, but my guess would be that he has played 90% of Torinos games since that high scoring season and would be one of the most fouled players in the league.

In short, he would score a bucketload in a team which allowed him to be around the penalty area rather than over reliant on him to do everything.

He is a top, top reliable player...thats the eye test.

A few rumours about Gravenberch £30mil-£35mil to Chelsea or Liverpool the other day.

Why do you think Brands hasnt signed a single player from his homeland since he joined the club? Seems very peculiar to me.

Ancelotti will have very good contacts in Milan. Also Kessie may feel more comfortable playing for Ancelotti with him being revered over there and of course across the globe.

If he signs for us he'll be starting every possible game under a world class manager. Things like that are important to players...

Just from his limited game time you can see he 'looks' like he could be a very good all round player...lets hope he can get back to where he was and even better.
Brands has said he doesn't think Dutch players play well outside the Dutch league and they are overpriced.

Spending 40m for a Dutch 18year old to play CM for us would be quite mental.

Will be 30 before the start of next season and he's had 3 different "muscle injuries" over the course of the last two seasons. He's a great player but it's a no from me at this point in his career.

No we definitely need a midfielder and a striker/wide attacker. Gbamin may come back and be fantastic, but it’s a big ask to expect him to play 40 games next season. And we can’t be left with Davies & Gomes. For a number of games

Also we’ve had no quality cover for front players. Iwobi & Bernard are useless. We should be looking at attacker/right wing to ppotentially play a lot of games IE a first choice and and another one who’s a very good back up.

I don’t believe for one second ancelotti will be happy with 2 or 3 signings

He has played less at CB because hes been the best right back option in Ancelottis eyes.

Would you play Keane or Mina at right back lol Weve also seen they cant play together in a 3...it will be one of them.

I think hes got to make these comments so that the current players dont get disheartened...hes also said only 2-3 signings when we will probably try and move on 6-7 players at minimum.

I imagine at the least we will see GK + RB + CB + CM + FW which is 5.

Whether hes Dutch or not shouldnt come into it regarding his playing ability.

Would you pay £40mil for Jude Bellingham?

Of course you would...the difference with Bellingham and Gravenberch is that Bellingham plays for England and Dortmund and has played for birmingham while Gravenberch Ajax and Holland.

In hindsight (and if we could have got them) would you have paid £40mil for De Ligt and De Jong when they were 18 ?

Of course you would.

Anyway, the point really is why hes not signed anyone...even a youth player before Brexit.

Its bizarre to me...id expect a DOF coming from a traditionally good country when it comes to developing players to have signed someone from that league.

Think Mina is off myself, couple of rumours wasn’t there

Could well be...apparently were looking for £23mil per the media.

Only 2 years left on his contract. I wonder if he may be involved in a swap deal attempt for Koulibaly...

Coleman when fit is first choice RB

Rumours are Ok but who will pay his big wages in a post pandemic world
Will Mina take a sizable drop in wages
South American players seemed to be attractive to a lot of Spanish clubs. Take Seville. On course for the champions league. They have 8/9 player on over 80k a week. Euros. Their highest earner is on 160k a week, which is more the Mina.

Theres talk they may lose their young superstar CB. With Mina 27 at the start of next season, he may think its a good time to get another 5yr deal somewhere else. If they offer him 80k a week, he will only lose about 4 mil in salaries over his last 2 seasons, if you believe the rumours that he’s on 120 a week.

So sell for 20/25 and pay him the short fall of his wages, I’m sure that type of thing goes on.

Forgive me if I’m wrong Zat but I think the main difference between Gravenberch and Bellingham is that they are completely different human beings altogether

Remember when we were signing Axel Witsel? I think the idea before Gbamin blew up his quad and ankle was for him to maybe be a version of that. I wouldn't give up on him yet.

Gbamin should have Allan in his cross-hairs from pre-season onwards.

I mean Carlo has allegedly said (mail) he wants a new CB in the mould of VVD, I would spend the kean money on koulibaly.

Agree on the striker, but there is no way Carlo Ancelotti is stupid enough to think we don't need a serious midfield signing this summer, regardless of how Gbamin is.

I think we should try really hard to not be playing a 4-2-3-1 with Allan and Doucoure.

Also I like Neto, but I don't know if I like him to the tune of whatever outrageous price Wolves will want.

I've been thinking of this conundrum (and this example) a fair bit.

You will have to pay for a fair amount of "english tax" (and probably doubly so given you are buying and selling from England) but the benefits are that you have seen the player deliver in England's top division. There should be a price to that. Now whether we feel that price should be below, above or at about the level it's at is interesting, but we should accept that such a premium exists and for where we are, it's worth considering.

The key mistake we probably made in the past, was paying that additional fee on declining assets. To me it is different buying players under 25 and doing it. You are just much more likely to put a tick in the box.

If we had a big sale, I'd be very open to bringing in a Neto, Bissouma in midfield etc as while you can probably find players with a similar ceiling for less, I'm not sure they will have anything approaching the same floor.
