Everton Summer transfers 2021

Norwich defender Max Aarons is interested in becoming an Everton player this summer, with the Blues having identified him as a right-back option.

The Athletic reported in March that Aarons had made his way onto a shortlist as Everton eyed candidates to succeed Seamus Coleman as the club’s long-term right-back.

Now The Times claim that not only are the Toffees indeed interested, but the 21-year old ‘is keen’ on switching East Anglia for Merseyside, despite Norwich’s imminent promotion.

Norwich are set to demand £30million in order to sanction Aarons sale, and as things stand that could be Everton’s primary stumbling block.
The Times claim that the Toffees are not keen on paying that much to land their target and would prefer to haggle down the price, but it remains to be seen whether Norwich would be open to that line of negotiation.

Aarons has been an integral player for Daniel Farke’s side this season, playing every minute of the 40 Championship games he has been apart of, missing just a single league game while he was playing for England Under-21s against Croatia.

It's definitely going to be a buyers market this year, well that is apart for Psg and City. Hopefully Paris will think Moise is essential.

I'd definitely keep Keane, Mina or Holgate can also go, along with a few of the leaches Besic, Bolasie, and Delph.

Some say that signing a 5’5 winger who’d been playing in a farmers league for years for a team in the most physical league in the world on £100k+ a week was a mistake to begin with
I don't think the physicality of the league has been Bernard's issue, he can stand up for himself. he seems to lack stamina, can only play full on for 60 minutes. He didn't really play as a winger for Shaktar, he was more central and he hasn't played there much for us.
I think you have to look at the value of the transfer as a whole, yes we pay him over 100k a week, £6.2m a year, according to Sportrac, which is just under £25m over the course of his 4 year contract. If we had paid a fee of £15m for him and paid him £10m over the same time frame would people even mention it? Based on the fact his former club paid £40m for him and his potential, people were generally made up with signing him at the time, as the perception was we had beat AC Milan and West Ham to his signature.

Was a calculated risk, not the worst of our transfer shenanigans

Not knocking Bernard but I'm never quite sure why people say this as if it's a good thing or proves anything. The perception of a load of people who've never - or at best rarely - seen a player kick a ball is really not even slightly relevant to whether it's a good deal or not. Fans will generally be excited by the signing of exotic sounding players who are talked up in the press as being in demand and bargains, it means nothing. What matters is whether a player actually produces the goods when they arrive. Bernard hasn't been the worst signing of recent years, not by a long shot, but he hasn't been a good signing either. Paying him £120k a week or whatever it is when he's only started 43 league games in 3 seasons is not ideal.

I obviously can’t argue with those facts however, even with all that in mind he has still been a very poor piece of business

Why have we continually bought players like him. Does the scouting network or manager not do enough research on these players. I know the games changed but you look at some of the players the likes of Peter Taylor found for Cloughie and you can list a load more managers or scouts who found good players. They'd spend weeks watching them play, find out about their temperament, their fitness, how often they got injured and so on. It just doesn't seem to happen with us anymore.

Gretar Steinsson is the one who is going out looking at the actual players and it's clear he is Brands go to guy or his "transfer hitman" as it was once described so i'm guessing Brands trusts what he says/tells him, so is it him that is the issue?

He's not a bad player at all, 5 times the player Sigurdsson is. Not hard to be fair
JWP is another one of those players that may be better than most of what we have, but that doesn't make him what we need to get to the next level.

I also think people still see him as a "kid", when he turns 27 this year. Not old by any means, but he doesn't have the room left for development that some assume.
