Everton Summer transfers 2021

This is a defence of Brands here, some signings weren't him, and he's acted chiefly as a negotiator.

I hope that he's now got free reign to be in charge, if just for the Dof system to work as it should.

It's not a defense of anyone.

NO CLUB waits for the end of the season to start moving. I mean we were until recently frontrunners for Max Aarons so how could that be possible if we've only just started our work?

I was defending Brands in my post...

I'm not sure we were actually ever 'front runners' for Max Aarons. Norwich quoted us silly money (from what I can gather). We moved on - which is fine - supposedly, albeit we've not seen anything of note regarding other targets. Hopefully we will before the Euros, and it's not just that we're waiting and waiting or didn't actually have anyone else on the list (which I don't think would be the case) and so are having to use the Euros to scout out alternatives.

Everything is just conjecture at this point. I understand the impatient nature of modern day fans but relax and see what happens. It's May 28th.

Well I definitely do think that.

Maybe I should have phrased my post to be - I'd like them to show us they aren't actually blagging it and for once do something which isn't very Everton.

I know we'll get signings in and I'm confident they'll be done before the season starts.

Like I said, I'm aware it's not even officially the end of the season yet, so it wasn't a head loss. It was more a 'wouldn't it be nice if we did things like that'.

But yeah, I see the point that if we did, we'd end up spunking £40m on someone like Josh King rather than Konate.

Well, I mean we wouldn't.

Even if we signed someone tomorrow we aren't seeing them training for another month so all it means is more news to chat about.

I shouldn't be surprised but somehow I've walked into this thread before June and I'm up to my ankles in piss already.

Look, I'm well aware of how it works. Liverpool clearly have the money to go and spend £36m on his release clause and that's fine.

I'd like to think that we also have the capability and finances to go out and pay someone's release clause (they all have them in Europe pretty much) and get a deal done swiftly. It'd be nice to see something like that happen because it's not very Everton.

What it seems - from what has been reported - is that our owner is actually scrabbling about trying to do a deal for a £100m cash injection. That's great, but surely we knew we were going to need that several months ago when any chance of the CL qualification vanished?

That's my concern. Because what happens if that doesn't come off, and we can't get that magic boost?

I know and thats fine.

I see why you would think that, honestly I do.

But when you pay what the selling club wants you end up with breaking your transfer record for an Iceberg.

For what I believe are several faults, I'd trust Brands not to do this.

I mean, he's only got one more strike after Delph (the only deal we got done early in 2019 wasn't it?) and Iwobi, but still, I'd trust him to get the right fee.

God, just ignore the Konate deal man, it's been in the pipeline for months. Not everyone has a release clause (mostly Spain) and most players that do have ludicrous ones. Just pretend it never happened and dry your pants off on the line outside.
