Everton Summer transfers 2021

It's not a defense of anyone.

NO CLUB waits for the end of the season to start moving. I mean we were until recently frontrunners for Max Aarons so how could that be possible if we've only just started our work?

...we truly don’t know what’s going on. I imagine European qualification was a factor in the transfer strategy. Also, there might be a few who make it clear they are happy to leave. i expect a couple of key signings have been lined up regardless.

For what I believe are several faults, I'd trust Brands not to do this.

I mean, he's only got one more strike after Delph (the only deal we got done early in 2019 wasn't it?) and Iwobi, but still, I'd trust him to get the right fee.
He sticks offers on desks and walks away.

That method will get you a good deal, but will also mean you're going up to the wire.

Of course it also means your paying 34m for Iwobi, but thankfully thats the only time hes panicked.

God, just ignore the Konate deal man, it's been in the pipeline for months. Not everyone has a release clause (mostly Spain) and most players that do have ludicrous ones. Just pretend it never happened and dry your pants off on the line outside.

I mean this is my point.

It'd be nice to see that we've worked on a deal in the pipeline for months, like Konate, like Soumare.

We know what we need. And have done for a while. It'd be nice to see us move swiftly and decisively early on - but we have again not seen evidence that that has been done. The legwork for Soumare was done by Leicester in the early spring. Are we totally incapable of that?

We either are incapable, or it's finances, and from the news this week it does appear that our owner asking around for extra investments to get round FFP would suggest it's the latter.

Seems like we had Aarons bubbling away but we moved on.

Also, plans you have in January can change rapidly.

Clubs could bid for players and it means you have to change targets.

You know how transfer windows work, they aint just painting by numbers.

You know what Eggs, so do I. I do believe that.

My point was it'd be nice to have seen something tied up and we can say 'oh yes, they've clearly worked on that for months', that's all :)

As for European stuff, I agree, but when it comes to finances, the main difference is the CL.

EL and Conference aren't going to provide massive boosts to the coffers, at least not ones that - even as Carlo suggested - would significantly mean our budget would be hugely different.

Champions League is a totally different ball game. But if we were sitting at the board level twiddling our thumbs about finances in Feb, based on a hopeful punt that we'd get CL, then I'd be worried.

Paying 45m for him stopped us doing a LOT of things.

Apart from scoring the winning goal at Anfield.

Yeah maybe mate maybe, I'd like to believe that if in March Norwich had told us £20m, then we'd have had a deal tied up by now and be welcoming him to the fold as a nice little boost to end the season.

Clearly they didn't and told us a fee that is out of the equation. I have no problem with us walking away, but it'd just be nice to see us not be like Everton. I'm convinced to improve we need to start being less Everton, cause Everton are crap.

Horrid club.

:D

I'm aware my initial posts looks a bit bed wetting but I generally wasn't meaning it to be.

I'd just like to see something tangible to show that we aren't just blagging it. But I do firmly believe we'll have, at the least, a winger and right-back in before the start of the season, which is ultimately the only thing that counts.

I do understand the desire for getting players in early, I share it.

But I dunno, I also see the many, many reasons why we cant.

None of that will stop me calling people bed wetters later in the window tho.

I don’t see how calling Everton incompetent in the transfer market is bed wetting, it’s probably the coldest take of all time.
