Everton Summer transfers 2021

When you are reliant on the full backs to create and in the modern game they are, they're starting to cost serious money now. They'll never be at the level of strikers or tens but a good full back costs good money these days.

...I’m old, the best full backs were often converted/failed wingers. I do think it’s something the Academy should consider (when I was at a club, forwards were often tried at FB before being discarded).

I expect there’s talented full backs out there that fully meet our requirements, Brands is paid a lot of money to find them. Blend is also very important. Digne looks more effective with somebody ahead of him. Digne is a real threat & I think that threat can be unleashed to greater degree with additional quality ahead of him.

I'd love for him to make a triumphant return but I think that notion is impossible. His ambition and ego wouldn't allow it. Even when he was here just incessantly made rumblings about playing elsewhere. The Moshiri weird voodoo comments probably don't help either
He’ll never ever be back here.

He needs a Pienaar.

....that axis with Baines was fantastic & it’s an example of what I meant when I mentioned ‘partnership’.

Brilliant though Pienaar was, this team needs an injection of pace, creativity & goalscoring threat from wide positions. A player with that capability would also really help us get the best out of Digne.
Yeah, I meant solely in terms of a partnership. Someone who he can overlap with and bomb on.
Richarlison is not quite that.

It depends on how CA sees the team playing going forward. If he wants to play 4-3-3 I dont think there is any need to splash alot of cash on Lukaku BUT if he wants to play 2 up top then Lukaku would be a devastating option with DCL maybe using Richy to pay off most of the transfer fee for Lukaku. Richarlison has been poor this season and wouldnt be concerned if he moved on.

So then he hasn’t been has he?

Ahh so you consider Arteta to be an elite level judge of player....most Arsenal fans disagree.

....I know you’re very keen on a CB but I’d be surprised if one is on our shopping list unless one of the frontline defenders leave (Keane or Mina). I can’t see Keane leaving but I suppose there could be a chance Mina leaves.

Absolute priority for me is genuine pace, quality and threat in wide positions. We’re impotent at home because we can’t take the game to the opposition. I think Digne becomes so effective with a proper attacker ahead of him. If we can get the full back/winger partnership right we’ll be more effective.

Of course, we would need to sell a CB to be able to buy one or we'll be paying wages out on squad players.

We can buy a Sancho/Kanchelskis and we'd still have a very deep defence which limits how we play...which in turn limits attackers effectiveness.

Arsenal would never sell him to us in case it worked out, they will happily sell us a Callum Chambers or a Maitlind Niles for inflated prices.
IMO Gabriel would still be a good bit of business for us, young fast and left footed, brings better shape to the defense if playing out from the back.

Precisely.
