So, Barcelona paid/are paying Betis 9M€ to acquire Emerson. They already owned 50% if him for which they paid 6M€ (so 15M they have paid). However, if they sell him this summer, they will only get 50% of the transfer fee, with the other 50% to Betis... so in order to avoid an accounting loss they would need a sale of well above 20M€.

However if they wait until January, Betis will receive only 20%, with the other 80% to Barça...

I thought the fee was €6mil but havent checked for ages so youre probably right on €9mil.

If were talking about an accounting loss then the €6mil was already paid out in 2019 so would be €3.6mil on the books now.

€9mil + €3.6mil = €12.6mil.

I think earlier you mentioned €30mil and now €20mil to avoid an accounting loss -- it would be €12.6mil to breakeven -- bear in mind that 50% of the sale fee to Betis is going to be over what has been paid on the players fees already. Its never calculated from zero (only over and above whats been paid so in this case €15mil).

On a conversion, anything over £10.8mil is profit...

I think last summer he was being floated at a figure of €25mil and this summer id guess €18-25mil.

With both of us having gone into this with some detail we may well be both wrong :)

A good player with lots of potential to be top class in any case. Someone we should be after.

Worrying news.

Maybe that's the problem with our club? Too many chefs...

I'd imagine that Leicester etc sit down with the manager and come up with a whole plan - formations, tactics and players that will work.

We just go "our right back is a bit past his best, let's get another" then all argue about who, what, where, when and why.

But at the end of the day you have to back the manager or why bring him in?

Why have a Director of Football ? Either the DoF is in charge of transfer strategy, or they're just a glorified negotiator. Ancelotti should tell Brands what positions he wants filled, and what qualities he's looking for, then leave the rest to Brands. Ancelotti should have right of veto over any incoming transfer, but it shouldn't be up to him to propose names to bring in.

Too many chefs? The players are so spoilt for choice at Wednesday's training that they end up playing terrible football on a Saturday?
